Makoto is numero uno! Firing on all cylinders!
It is almost as if the woeful miscue that is Children Who Chase Lost Voices was never made. |

I attended the first screening on Saturday at Movix Saitama-Shintoshin (9am).
It was screened in a quite large cinema and while not sold out was probably over 80 percent full. So beautiful it made one cry. |

Omiya-san, what's the exact length of the film? Is it another 45-50 minute like the Garden of Words or is it a full 90+ min length like Hoshi wo ou Kodomo?

106 minutes. Should be his second-longest film to date. |

This isn't giving in to hype, but having seen the premiere at AX I can say this is better than Children etc. and Garden of Words on many dimensions. I liked both of those as well but this is a different film from them, more action and maybe more story. Of course it was quite touching as well, if a little confusing because of the time element, and very interesting in the integration of the concept of "connectedness" (forgot the term in Japanese). Glad to see it doing so well in Japan and hope to see it here again in the US. Take that, Godzilla!

The question remains, is it actually any good? The guy is not that great with story telling.

I've always found Shinkai's films to be made based on what would be visually interesting, with the story usually being "okay" at best. I'm glad it's been so successful. I can't wait to see it in US theaters.

I'm very curious how much the production of this movie cost. Sounds like they are going to be rolling in the dough if it's anywhere close to the cost of his past works, or anime films in general. They should already be well into the black. This makes me exceedingly happy!

It looked like a lot was spent on it, a top quality production. |
