Make Anime Great Again. Honestly, the historical revisionist stuff concerns me a lot more than the Youth Ordinance thing. |

Making anime great again is just what the doctor ordered especially with the Olympics coming.

Good thing a doctor doesn't order anything for a potential disaster about to happen. That's public safety's job. |

Hooray, as long as she cosplays and panders to otaku, her horrible regressive policies don't matter!

An "Anime Land" seems like a fun thought, but I'm not sure if Ms. Koike-san's idea of one would be generally good or bad, considering her support for child pornography laws being applied to drawings and animated works.

To be fair, the politicians of pretty much every country that was involved in WW II with the exception of Germany has been pretty "liberal" with their interpretation of what happened during the war. Unsavory details are often left out of textbooks even in America and politicians will still to this day push for war museums to omit what they think is "unamerican". I'm honestly always impressed with how much backlash Japan meets for revising its role in the war considering what American, Chinese, English and Russian textbooks get away with without anyone so much as even caring. Censorship should always be worrisome; especially when the ones pushing it are using the "protect the children" card which has historically been a blank check to pretty much do whatever they wanted without accountability. As for the new governor, I say we have to wait and see. She was part of what is essentially Japan's Imperialist Party so there's no telling how many of these positions were simply required for the job and how many were what she supported. {Edit: Please refrain from excessive quoting.. I'm just happy to see the LDP get screwed. Despite what the name suggests they're a bunch of right wing nationalist who have deliberately shortened election cycles to benefit themselves.

Perhaps you would like to enlighten us on the American World War II stuff. Not saying you are wrong, I haven't the faintest idea what is in public school textbooks for World War II nowadays, though I am sure they have been edited for content for political correctness purposes. Really interested in what they would consider un-American from WWII. |

Well America, China, Britain, and Russia were members of the victorious Allies and history usually gets to be written by the victors. I wonder why Germany is seemingly the only exception to the "keep history that makes our country look bad out of education" rule? I mean like Japan, they were defeated in WWII. {Edit: Please refrain from excessive quoting.. I edited your post for you. ~ Psycho 101} |

I'll start with the Russians since they're the easiest ones: -They were one of the biggest sexual predator of WW II with millions of rapes under their belt including their own civilians since they were incidents where they pillaged their own towns. -Torture and executions were done without a second thought and desertion was punished by execution as well. -They have a series of massacres on their record and cases of mass suicide of thousands occurred when the Red Army returned to a town they had previously pillaged because the populace couldn't endure another go at it. The list is actually quite a bit longer, but this is to be expected from Russia under Stallin. United States: -Mass rapes (thousands to tens of thousands depending on how conservative your estimate is) during the Japanese campaign that largely went unreported and ignored when reported as well as continued rape during the subsequent occupation of Japan and use of censorship to hide the truth and imprisonment of Japanese men who tried to help stop the abuse. To add insult to injury, the only time rape was punished was when the perpetrators were black; and they were usually executed. -Prostitution brothels under the control of the Japanese Army were liberated yes, but many of the women/children enslaved there were raped by american soldiers because they looked "too Japanese". -Thousands to then of thousands of rapes committed in other parts of the world for which only a handful have even been officially admitted today. -Torture of prisoners. -"Take no prisoner" orders given in several large battles. -The Japanese internment camps in America. England: -Responsible for a famine in India that killed as many as 4 million people and can be considered nothing short of a genocide. -The usual abundance of rapes all armies seem to be so fond of. -Attack on non-combatant ships. -Execution of shipwreck survivors. -Mistreatment of POWs. -Large scale looting of areas they "liberated". -Bombing of undefended towns that killed tens of thousands (Alongside America of course). Both Americans and British carried bombings specifically targeting civilians with incendiary bombs as part of operations to "Damage the moral of the enemy civilian population." Kocevski Rog Massacre where over 10 000 prisoners of war were murdered without trial by being thrown into pits. Depending of your view of the use of weapons of mass destruction on a civilian population, that's one of the top massacre of the war right there. China also went with the best of them in execution, rapes, torture and purposely sacrificing their own populace to the Japanese without a second thought. Honestly, the only reason the allies came out of the war looking good is because they won and therefor where selective with facts and their enemy was the Axis; they can make almost anyone look good by comparison. And as someone mentioned above, history is written by the victors. Which is why every single crime committed by the losers, no matter how trivial or grave, is a horrible crime that must be atoned for in full; but any crime committed by the victors, regardless of the magnitude, is just the "unfortunate reality of war" and we need to accept that and move on. |

England's history texbooks basically say "England won everything single-handedly, England is the best, All hail Churchill". I'd pinpoint that as the cause for all the Europe-centric racism. Historial revisionism isn't okay, but it certainly isn't new.

I think that's a little unfair and disingenuous, and probably why the vast majority of people are disenfranchised with politics in general. And, in all my years in the media have learned not, every person in public service acts this way regardless of the party, and regardless if it is the US or Japan. I'll use the American system just since that's probably the majority of people on this board re from. you can be a Republican without being far right just as you can be a democrat without being far left. I'm not sure at what pointing the past forty years being a Democrat meant being an advocate for Gay Witches for Abortion, or Republicans who stand on the platform, Guns for Jesus. Somewhere in my near sixty years it's become an all-or-nothing mantra for someone who is with either party. I knew plenty of Democrats back in the day who would puke at the thought of gay rights or abortion, just as I knew many Republicans who would do the same about being about to buy a copy of Guns for Christians. In the US there was a middle ground, and most people in a political part were not clumped together. Now, with my time in Japan, I can just as easily stay the majority of people who vote LDP get just as annoyed at the trucks blaring "Down with China", and would just as much like a peaceful Japan without the constitutional amends being changed as well. Off topic side note/personal opinion. spoiler[ For the record, I wouldn't vote for Trump of Hilary, and do not think they speak for either half of the American populous, right or left. And, the public as a whole should not have to choose the lesser of two evils, that's a little more palatable than that, or I'm not voting for, but against... The fact that citizens will compromise for the leads off their country is in itself ridiculous. ] And to quote the fake Bill Clinton,
