Being someone who is still apt to grumble about the cost of a PS3, perhaps adding a degree of pseudo-obsolescence to its successor will usher a pleasant trickle-down effect.
Or perhaps not. 'Tis ever the preserve of the wealthy and the reckless, the world of video games. |

BULLSHIT! I've been waiting for the PS4's price to not only go down, but to buy it when "NEO" was released. Now, the price will be higher after the upgrades??? I just can't win..... |

This is why I haven't bought a PS4 yet.

To do 4k @30FPS it would need the equivalent of two GTX 1080s... At that point you might as well just build a PC. Even NIS is putting put all of it's new games for the PC now.

I only got a PS4 last year so I'm kinda annoyed. I don't have a 4K television anyway, so I guess I wouldn't miss out too much. As long as they are being truthful about how it will have no exclusive games, then I'm fine.

Well, they never mentioned that this new version of the PlayStation4 would be "affordable" and 4K does cost a lot cash, so the higher price tag is expected. But then comes this question for customers mulling over the idea of buying it: "Will the Ultra-HD version of the PS4 feature any exclusive titles?"

There's no way they're releasing this for 4K resolution in games. Gotta imagine this is for 4K video content: streaming, UHD Blu-rays, etc. This will probably stabilize 1080p at 60fps for games that don't lock at 30fps. Beyond that, anyone expecting 4K gaming on this thing for new releases are gonna be disappointed. |

I would wait less than 1 week before screaming bloody murder. I for one bought my PS4 8 months after release (off Ebay of course) and don´t feel brayed yet. I also have all 3 consoles and a self-build high end PC, so potential upgrades don´t target me, as of now. They must be confident to do this and Microsoft is following suit. BigN is in a weird place right now...
E3 2016 looks dope, and i don´t have to work, so i will stream all conferences for the 10th year in a row. Last edited by residentgrigo on Fri Jun 10, 2016 10:26 am; edited 1 time in total |

honestly not surprised and frankly I can't see myself buying a newer ps4 just for a 4k uhd tv I don't have, the only thing I'm wondering is whatever happened with the shit storm of making a backwards compatable ps4 or was that a really bad prank?

You won't be seeing 4K games, you might see 4K media, but short of using far newer hardware it's unlikely the PS4+ will ever have 4K games at a playable frame rate.
Given that they used old hard ware when the 4 came out i assume they are just using slightly newer but still old hard ware. |

Funny how people were singing them praises a few ago, and now the backlash has started when people see just how Sony looks when they try to take an initiative on anything.

The only thing I hate is the BS upgrade argument. If people were constantly spending money on upgrading PCs....they wouldn't freaking buy consoles! Good job Sony, you just completely undermined the main advantage of console gaming.

If I remember the PS4 has games that can't even run 1080p at 60fps (which is completely inexcusable as late gen PS3 games could and that should be standard). Why don't they fix those issues first before going up for 4K? I brought mine last October and hardly played anything on it so I'm not too upset but this still really sucks.

^I think this is what the upgrade for. There are plenty of games that run at 1080p and 60 fps on the PS4, the problem is that they're mostly indie and lower budget games, and not the triple A stuff like Bloodborne or Uncharted 4. Obviously, the increased power only goes so far, it's unlikely that either Bloodborne or Uncharted 4 will be running at 60 fps now and it's highly doubtful we'll see any 4K games.
This article has a good rundown of what to expect: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2016-how-playstation-4k-neo-and-the-original-ps4-will-co-exist In any case, for all the people upset about this new PS4, guess what?, you don't have to buy it. |
