Well this fails because there's no English dub included. Why was this never properly dubbed? (I said properly, the Animax one doesn't count.)

I doubt they can afford to dub a series this niche.

Wasn't Gakuen Alice the subject of a lot of discussion at one point? I remember seeing a lot of debates about its subject matter and story a few years ago.

Agreed! I'd love someone to rescue this one and publish it in any format!

Yes, the managa was amazing. The anime only went to volume 6 I think out of 31 I believe so it really didn't get to the really dark parts/juicy bits of the series and the school. Sort of like with Fruits Basket not even the tip of the iceberg.

Never could get into this show. I understand that MIkan's trouble are supposed to be seen as funny... but to me it was just mean-spirited. Everything in that school was mean spirited. The teachers were giant jerks and seem to go out of their way to find ways to make Mikan miserable. I don't see how that is funny.
Also, I thought it was so stupid how, in a world of super-powers, someone who has the power to nullify super-powers isn't basically a "get out of shit" card. Hell, if it was my school, MIkan would be on a full scholarship, all-inclusive services I could provide. Don't they realize how freaking amazing someone who can nullify super powers is? Does this get shown in the manga? Yes, they feel she's a threat to power users, but holy hell man, wouldn't you want her on YOUR side?
Honestly, this is my major problem with most shoujo anime: the bullying. Every time there's a school setting, there's got to be bullying. And almost always it get to the "she's bullyed because she's close to a guy the bully likes".

Yes it does. There are lots of secrets about the school and all kinda of drama that never gets explored.

Ah, the curse of incomplete adaptations strikes again.

I really loved this series. I related a lot to Mikan because of my personal experiences with bullying (although from other students, not teachers), but I also really enjoyed the story and animation. It does stink that it only covered a small fraction of the manga, and that it also didn't continue from where the anime did leave off (which I thought it could have), but for what it is it's a good series to watch.
I did really enjoy Episode 16, as stated in the review, as well. I probably would consider it my favorite episode in the series, although the episode with the play was also really good. I don't have this release - I have the one with the chipboard art box - but I'm pretty sure there's no difference other than cosmetic.

^ No difference at all in the content - this release is more for people who didn't have the chance to buy it before.
