There's already a great number of good games on 3DS, so you should definitely think about it.
I succumbed to it and bought a 2DS (with Yo-kai watch) 3 months ago. I do not even regret it.

Now is the time to get this console for me. I always had to decode whether I need a more functional smartphone or gaming console more but for this price the console wins

Hmm... Should I go out now and try buying a used New 3DS or should I wait for the price drop to buy the 2DS instead? Decisions, decisions...

Buying a new New 3DS is better, although I'm hoping the price will drop before Sun and Moon came out. But I'll still buy it even if the price hasn't gone down by than.

Since the 2DS still comes with Mario Kart 7, it's a great budget option as a $50 handheld console with a $30 game. I'm not planning on giving up my New 3DS anytime soon, but this might be a good spare if I end up getting both the new Pokemon games...

As someone who has the 2DS, I'd like to suggest a couple of things:
1: Get the NFC Reader as it doesn't come with one and it's about $20.
2: Get a bigger memory card as it does come with one and it's (I believe) a 4gb (That's what mine is as I got it when it first came out).
Disney Magical World 2 is a Day 1 buy for me. It's the closest I'll ever get to Disney World and I'm somewhat okay with that.
I've only played the Style Savvy demos and they're pretty okay. I'll wait until it gets a price drop to buy it.

The Style Savvy franchise is one of Nintendo's biggest sleeper hits. It's Nintendo's take on the fashion game and is what results when you got the budget and passionate game designers.
I definitely see this as a big boon for Pokémon Sun and Moon...and probably the reason for the brief mention of it being 2DS-compatible.
