Oh right, Silvermask. I almost forgot that they are the same person. I like the cape design shown here.

He's not called Hermes?! Is that official? Hermes is better imo.

I think about two-thirds through both the sub and dub they changed it, which was weird!
Agreed. They should have kept it Hermes. |

I also agree. hermes sounds much better! And I'm really really glad that they didn't change very much about his design!

And yet Hermes is wrong. Hilmes/Hirmes is a correct one.

I think another spelling is "Hilmiz"?

I thought "Hermes" was the official romanization, since that's how the streams' subtitles spell his name, but it always seemed wrong to me, because his name in katakana is spelled ヒルメス ("hirumesu"), not ヘルメス ("herumesu"). Personally, I'd go with "Hilmes".

I also agree Hermes is better than Hilmes.
FWIW the original OVA series of Arslan had a special video announcement for episode 5 (narrated by Dan Green) that said they were requested by the licensor to change the names to the following Darun, Narcasse, Eram, Guibu The new Arslan series is obviously a different committee but it just shows that Japanese still aren't masters of the English language so it be nice if there was consistency I remember when Arslan Musou (Arslan: The Warriors of Legend) started revealing characters on the game's site there were also English names included. But again Japanese "Engrish" isn't always 100% reliable. I have no clue if Funimation noticed and then panicked but if they did based on the game's Engrish spellings it was the wrong decision IMO. https://www.gamecity.ne.jp/arslan-musou/characters.html Why stop at "Hilmes" Xandes --> Zandeh & Esfan --> Isfan ![]() A similar example would be some Heavy Object episodes where Funimation subs had names spelled a specific way but then for the next episode (and the broadcast dub) the names were spelled exactly as on the Heavy Object anime website ANN review even talked about it... animenewsnetwork.com/review/heavy-object/episode-19/.98893 |
