I wonder if the possibility of not reaching the stretch goals started to settle in, and the author wanted to make sure at least SOME people get the whole series. I hope they do reach every stretch goal, so this book can see it's complete release on store shelves, and not just 3 or 4 volumes. If it doesn't make it, I hope DMP find another way to get the money it needs.

Unfortunately, it really wouldn't shock me if they just print up to whatever stretch goal's they reached, and abandon the rest, considering all the other manga they print a volume or two of and then abandon.

So volume 1 print copy had a bid amount of 20 dollars, shipping included. So, logically, 6 x 20= 120. No, that's a "special" offer and the real amount for a three volume omnibus collection, shipping included, is 30 dollars (24.95 plus 5.05 S + H). So, logically a total investment package would save on shipping for the publisher as well as increase sales across the board usually so the entire package gets reduced 20% off or "buy 5, get 1 free". At the very least, you have to respect the buyer a little right?

You save 10 dollars. Ok, "respect" is a strong word...

This has gotten to the point that they're trying to sell the series rather than trying to sell the "idea" of the series so it's an improvement. I never warmed up to this series myself but it's closer to ones I would want... a triple volume collection of Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou would be irresistible to me for example, even at full price.

It's a better offering then their other Kickstarters but they did it backwards from the start for some reason; For volume one, it's a success but for the entire series, it's dubious.

Maybe I'm just too pragmatic for kickstarters, the point seems to be get as much pointless money as possible from people who have it rather than what I'd prefer, "value for money given".

Animego: Money probably goes to printing fees, licensing fees, retranslating it, and whatever it takes to at least break even on the venture.

Ah, so people that pledge in these tiers are guaranteed the whole series, but only if it is considered an "early add on". Looking at it, I'm surprised these new tiers aren't limited to a certain amount. Feels a bit like the stretch goals for the volumes is a bit pointless, as anyone that wants the whole thing in print or digitally can just pledge for these new tiers.

Already have 101 backers on the new $170 tier that was made for the print edition. And now I know how much it's gonna cost...fark, $80USD shipping really hurts. Bumps me up to $250USD, which for me is $320...gonna see if I can do this...damn weak AUD...

I've got 2 weeks...let's see what I can sell. Laughing

I cannot stress this enough -- do not be tempted by the digital version. Nobody at Digital Manga knows how to format for ebooks. The first volume has actually been on Amazon for a while, but when you download it, all you get is a series of thumbnails that you have to click on individually, then close and go to the next one.

(Even more frustrating, the second volume of the light novel Aria of the Scarlet Ammo works the exact same way -- the text is actually stored in image files! And people wonder why it flopped.)

Yes, international shipping is very expensive from the US. DMP isn't doing this to make extra money off shipping. Since they'll be adding tracking, that means that all orders, at a minimum, will have to be sent via certified mail (cheaper option than Priority Mail International and EMS). The last time I sent priority to Australia, I paid $60 for a medium sized box weighing no more than 2 pounds. So, unlike some countries, say Japan for example, shipping prices are expensive.

I'm very happy that all six omnibus volumes will be offered but I'd like some more details. Will there be color inserts? Will the volumes have slipcovers or perhaps could that be offered if it hits 120K? I'm really happy to see the overall jump in raised funds from 63K to 86K in less than a day after the announcement.

The whole of Kimagure Orange Road from DMP in digital form is available from emanga.com. It doesn't work like you are describing. Once you set the image size to your screen preferences, you simply scroll from page to page for the entire volume or click to advance page by page.

I prefer the format Crunchyroll provides but this one works. emanga offers it in several different formats for different devices. I'm using the one intended for PCs.

Will there be a way to purchase the volumes one at a time in the future? I pledged $35, but I really can't afford to get all 6 omnibus volumes at once, especially since this is a blind buy for me (series looks cool though).

I'm confused. The way I read the update is they were allowing people to pledge for all the volumes early and made three new tiers to simplify things since there were people asking or complaining about the add-on process. So if the campaign still doesn't reach the goals they won't be doing those volumes at this time. Is that right?

Not everyone seems to realize any print copies are to be exclusive to the Kickstarter with the small overrun from printing offered on Akadot at a later point either.

I wish DMP would realise some people simply cannot afford to shell out for an entire series at once, plus extortionate shipping if you're not in the US. Paper is heavy. Backing a Kickstarter campaign should not be the only chance ever to get print copies of a series.

I'm talking about the actual ebook for reading on a tablet, and it absolutely does work the way I'm describing, unlike every other manga ebook sold by competent publishers.

Still seems a bit much for the shipping, but it's nice to see more options added.

Wow, sounds crazy. I send off stuff to the US and UK, and I can pack a box so its weight is 2kgs...and it costs $20AUD to the US and $25AUD to the UK. Honestly thought that it would be cheaper in the US than here. Especially as there's more competition for shipping in the US than Australia...

Plus, I would've thought they'd get a discount, seeing as this would be a massive shipping order. May or may not be the case, but I'd be surprised if they were paying the regular rate.

No, DMP have said IF (yes, big if) there are any left over from this KS, they'd be only sold on their website. And, that they are only doing an extra 1-2%, which could mean there's as little as 10 copies extra per volume.

So, really, this KS is the only chance many will have to get it in print. Still seeing if I can afford to do so.
