I'm all for letting people like what they wanna like. People are allowed to have their own opinions about whatever music act/genre/trend/gimmick whatever the hell. That being said, I'm hoping this band dies before 2017. Megitsune was just about the only good song they've released, and they committed the cardinal sin of allowing Herman Li to write for them, not that I'm surprised as their brand of metal seems to be a perfect fit for one another. I'm hoping their careers continue this impassioned embrace all the way to the dumpster.
Megitsune's cool though, more of that kind of work. |

Music is 100% subjective. I don't wish for any band to fail because, if they are successful, they have an audience that enjoys their music. |

Completely disagree. And I can guarantee most people will disagree with you as well. I've liked most of their songs so far. You claim you're all for letting people have their own taste and music, then you precede to say you hope their continues crash and burn. Seems a little contradictory and a little harsh. |

So you wish for a group of teen girls to go bankrupt for doing something they love and that many others apparently enjoy? Only because you personally don't like their songs. That's pretty harsh. Also, Herman Li did not write or arrange a single song on the album. He and Sam Totman are only featured as guests on the very first song, and none of the rest. I'm not a fan of this group either, but if their success makes you that mad... well, just take your own advice and let people enjoy what they want. |

I 100% agree that music is subjective. I'm a musician myself (classical/band music) and even in the genres I play we have songs that I wonder how anyone could like them (especially contemporary classical pieces that for example involve clicking your instrument's keys instead of actually playing it or give the performer nightmares because of how ridiculous it is written like time changes EVERY measure with ugly key signatures and accidentals out the wazoo). Pretty much every kind of music has a niche (I dislike rap and most popular music but if you like it then I'm cool with that as long as you don't blast it in your car at midnight). I tend to be drawn toward over the top stuff like DragonForce(speed) and Maynard Ferguson(screaming trumpets). I personally believe "hating" on something as subjective as personal tastes of music is foolish and a waste of time but it's really common. I don't really "hate" on music styles but I will criticize a famous pop singer if they can't even sing in tune (I've heard some modern "greats" hit notes a quarter step off or so.) In any case, I'm not really a fan of BabyMetal but if people like what they do then who am I to say they are wrong? |

I agree. I mean, if you set objective criteria for reviewing a track like "Is this singer in tune?" "Is this guitarist technically proficient?", you can answer in absolutes regarding that song or artist. You can say with confidence that the song succeeds or fails when measuring very specific criteria. But when you're talking about whether an artist is "good", this is something that varies from person to person. Some people like artists with great vocals, some like songs that show technical proficiency, some like artists who write their own music... and yes, some people like gimmicks, too. If they didn't, we wouldn't have pop radio. I will criticize the shit out of bands that I don't like, but I recognize at the same time that they may have people who love them and there is nothing wrong with that. |

If I recall correctly Sam and Herman wrote the single "Road of Resistance" which is why it sounds like a classic DragonForce song. I don't support killing any bands but a lot of professional concert bands and orchestras are struggling now days (at least where I live) since instrumental classical music isn't very popular (it is bigger in Japan though, some stores have an entire floor dedicated to band/classical music and concert bands are part of several recent anime which would be completely unthinkable in the US). |

Sorry, not gonna happen. BABYMETAL is *still* growing in popularity. They're too big of a moneymaker for their parent company. The only way they'd fall apart that soon is if the girls quit, and I think they'll still probably be good for doing it for a while. I personally wouldn't mind more wagakki (traditional Japanese music) inspired songs, but considering most of BABYMETAL's musical influence is actually Western metal bands, they probably won't make much of it. They made Megitsune as a way to be different, like they generally try to with all of their music. |
