That is a nice statement, but an even better action would be adopting US style fair use laws. The TPP specifically calls out fair use laws as acceptable and in fact encourages (but does not require) countries to adopt them.
Of course fair use would also protect commercial parodies like in the first episode of Osomatsu-san or Shirobako's Ideon episode.

Wasn't one of the biggest concerns not that the TPP could make all fan-art illegal (the bigger doujin vendors at Comicat etc would likely be found to be breaking those provisions Abe mentions if taken to court) but that it would make it so someone other than the original rights holder could start legal proceedings against an alleged copyright infringer? This doesn't address that, or anything really.

Well, so long as I can still see all the illegal anime. I'm fine.

if they're hosted in one of the participating countries, the site could go down. If it's hosted somewhere else, it's all good. Well, not legal but the government isn't going to proactively seek it out.

So Mister Abe saved all the porn. That's very nice of him.

He's a better politician to the anime industry than Shintaro Ishihara.

Seems Abe is only "reassuring" the Doujin artists than giving them the full picture of the TPP.
In general, yes doujins would be safe. Since the vast majority of doujins are either original or an interpretation of an existing work (novel, game, manga, or anime). Which is acceptable under Japanese law. However, I could easily see doujins being quickly shut down if they use works that came outside of Japan. For instance, Disney is really protective of their works and I could easily see them shutting down a doujin in a heartbeat if it was based from of their licenses. But they've been respectful thus far. Hopefully it will never get to a serious level.

I agree, Ishihara just wanted to destroy the industry so he can sell more of his extreme and harmful books. This is also the second time doujin has been saved from oblivion and tyranny this year.

The TPP will do and create more harm than good. Anyone not living in Japan and not watching in their TV stations is pretty much guilty. The TPP will only cause the decline of popularizing anime even more. Japan even stated themselves that interest and revenue from and in anime is down like 20 % the past 2 years. I wonder why...
I am sure it has nothing to do with less sharing and less word of mouth. You know... the so-called infringement is definitely not helping with the industry.
My thoughts anyway.

Only in Japan can the political leader of the country make a public statement regarding often pornographic fan works. And I love it.
...A US president would be laughed out of Washington if they ever made a statement like that.

...Or it could be that the number of anime streaming sites in Japan has increased in the past 2 years. Sales of all physical media, not just anime, have been decreasing the past few years. And that's not just in Japan. Plus, sales are going to vary year to year, depending on how many big hits there are in a given year. I remember ANN had an article a while back about the decrease in sales, but I don't believe it was 20%.
I really hate the TPP, but i'm not going to through around accusations without:
A. Having sources to back up any claims.
B. Considering potential alternatives than my personal viewpoint for why a piece of data is the way it is.

I mean, it's not like pirating helps the industry any more than it hurts it.

I am using the website due to circumstances, but if there is sufficient Internet connection, I'll surely switch to the legal websites for watching anime, like Crunchyroll and such.

That depends; can that site and those like it sue Japan in the Investor-State Dispute courts if Japan tries to impose regulations that impede their expected future profits? But if their actions are also illegal, maybe it'll lock the TPP corporate kangaroo courts up in an infinite loop.

I have to believe there's one candidate in this cycle who could get away with it, and we all know who they are.
