How the rankings work still confuses me. Like, Durarara drops 16 places and as such drops 17 spots on cumulative, whereas Rakugo drops 15 spots to the bottom of the list and as such only drops 2 spots to 13. I'm not disputing it, I'm genuinely just confused still.

I'm less confused by the math, and more annoyed that Rakugo is unpopular at all.
sigh. Such as it goes.
Nice send-off rise to the top by KonoSuba, despie starting later/finishing earlier than everything else.

I'm also aghast at Drrr!!'s cumulative drop.
The only explanation I can think of is the users rated Drrr!!'s episode 34 lower than any of its previous episodes. This drop is more compared to the drop in ratings between many of the other shows' episodes. That's why it's lower in the cumulative ranking, or something like that...(It could have something to do with the amount of users who rate as well: More rate less = bigger drop)
I'm sorry if I don't explain it very well, I'm pretty confused myself.

BokuMachi and Grimgar going up I expected, but Dimension W is a surprise, episode 10 was the one I liked the least and I hadn't been seeing many people saying they liked it. Durarara and Shouwa going down that much looks weird if anything, DRRR's episode was nothing particularly different than DRRR had been doing, and the only thing I saw complaints about for that Shouwa episode was how convenient it was that their master had history with Sukeroku, which didn't both me as much as it did other people.

Well on Dimension W, I'm guessing those more positive on it are quieter, though the episode isn't much higher than the previous one in user ratings, so I don't know what caused the rise, unless those above it dropped. Durarara and Shouwa can be explained by poor user ratings, 3.1 and 2.5 respectively. I can't see what explains those ratings though, short of being a mind reader.

ERASED is being carried along in the top spot by dominating earlier in the season, but KonoSuba almost caught it with an impressive late run - 5 of its last 7 episodes in the top three in the rankings. I think that officially qualifies it as the surprise hit of the season.

To be honest, I think it may be winter's representative in the AOTY polling, among the users at least, considering the trip ups that Erased has gone through in episode 10 and...well just look at Shouwa's rank and tell me it will be voted AOTY, despite the fact that it probably should be in consideration, though I would be surprised if the critics don't include it in their choices.

If the ending to ERASED is satisfactory, I expect ERASED and Showa to be in several of the ANN critics' top 5's for the year.
As of now I consider Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju the best anime series of 2016. And if it nails the ending, it will be hard to dethrone for me.

I have no doubt about the critics picks. If Erased ends satisfactorily it might get some user votes at the end of the year too. I too think Shouwa is a contender for AOTY, and I sincerely doubt we'll get 5 better ones this year. But considering how low it's been rated, I doubt it will get many votes from most of the users.

Well, there's something wonky about Rakugo's rankings anyway. Another viewer was watching the ratings on the review page and said that for Episode 10, between the 12th when it aired and the 16th it held steady at 4.3, on the 17th it was 3.6. On the 19th was 3.0. It's now down to 2.5.
I could see it steadily dropping as people less excited about it got around to watching it, but it looks like most of the low ratings came lobbing in all at once 5 days after it aired - just in time for the survey cutoff. The week prior it was like some of those people missed the deadline, because the episode ranking shot up 9 places, even though the next day the ranking was back down to 3.6 like the previous week's episode. So this week got really downvoted as if to make up for that mistake. The episodes themselves haven't really varied much in quality.
The other reason this strikes me so odd is that in most discussion threads and review threads you invariably get posts chiming in about why they don't like a show and all the things that it's doing wrong that's pissing them off, or to announce it's so bad they're dropping it, or sarcastically hate-watching it. Even Shippuden Filler Hell got those posts (some of them from me!). Both Rakugo threads have been pretty free of that kind of negative feedback, so whatever it is they hate about it, they're sure keeping it to themselves.

Damn Knosuba, for something that almost wasn't covered is doing incredible well (well deserved too). Hard to decide between it and grimgar for my AotS (and I don't even like trapped in fantasy/mmo).
Gundam should bounce back with last week episode, it was one of the best episode I've seen in awhile, especially in mech show (gundam thunderbolt doesn't count).
Erased latest episode was better than the one before, but its still dragging a pretty heavy weight. I also don't get Rakugo rating, I ended up dropping it cause I didn't care for Rakugo itself, but now I kinda wonder whats going on in it to cause that heavy drop.

^Tbh at this point I'm willing to believe there is an active effort to sabotage Showa Genroku. Remember how all the way through episode 7-8 there was a notable crew that kept chiming in to say how the show was totally "no homo" and that Gabriella was ruining it for everyone with her reviews. Those same people stopped commenting around the same time the show's ranking started to tank. Otherwise it would seem odd that the show continues to sink lower and lower in the ranking while it continues to be consistently the best thing the season has to offer

The first time it tanked was from episode 3 to 4 so I think that's unrelated.
