Looking forward to this! Especially by studio MAPPA and the potential director along with the premise. I hope the story will be good too.

If Sayo Yamamoto is in fact the director then this is going to be a must watch. I wonder if this show will have a yuri theme going on or if that's just the title and has nothing to do with girls love. I really want more yuri animes

I highly doubt that, despite the title, this is going to be a yuri anime. I bet it will star a male protagonist named Yuri or maybe a female Yuri who will have very important hetero romance. I think it is best that we wait for more info.

Sounds like it, considering that a) the title is written as ユーリ with a long "u", which is one of the ways of writing the Russian guys' names Yuri and Yuli in Japanese (the "u" in "yuri" as in "lily" or "girls' love" is short); and b) most of the Japanese sites reporting this expressly mention that the anime is about male figure skaters. If anything, chances are that it will lean in the opposite direction.

So far they've released too little information about the show for me to make an opinion on it so I'm just going to wait for the promotional video.

Amen to that at least. After watching Endless Night about 500 times, I was dying for a skaing anime series, and lo and behold! Can't wait to find out more about this.

I was afraid that would be the case. Oh well, still going to watch it because of Sayo Yamamoto, that's enough reason to care for this show even with such little info.
Thanks for the explanation too :3

Regardless of whether it's gay or straight, if Sayo Yamamoto is directing an ice-skating anime, it's going to be D R E N C H E D I N S E X, so we can all look forward to that at least!
And if her prior work is any indication, it'll be pretty gay even if the actual plot is supposedly 100% hetero. See also Michiko and Hatchin or The Woman Called Fujiko Mine. Or hell, even her Rock n' Roll episode of Space Dandy was intensely homoerotic.

I've never been more disappointed. I mean that title would be pretty on the nose if it actually was Yuri, but they really got my hopes up.

I am so thirsty for this, I will be watching videos of figure skaters (solo of both genders, and pairs) just to prepare myself.

If it's about a Russian ice skater named Yuri, I'm not watching )
In all seriousness though, I can see it being about a homosexual ice skater mainly because of all the jokes I hear about male ice skaters.

FINALLY!!!! How many times I've prayed for an ice skating anime? Well here it is with Sayo and MAPPA. I expect only the best direction, art work, and queer undertones. Ooooh yeah!

I actually really want this to be guy-gay honestly. I love me some Yurikuma and all that, but considering there are next to no good yaoi shows, I think we could use an Artsy yaoi show for once.
