So is Ichigoman male, or is the -man suffix just used regardless of gender of the character?

I think the "-man" suffix is only for show.
In any case, this is quite an interesting take of Hello Kitty with the superhero theme. I await to see the potential of Ichigoman's powers. |

It's like some sentai shows being called _____man despite having male and female team members. |

Interesting that Sanrio is doing something with both the Ichigoman and Chogokin lines. It shuld be noted Yuko Yamaguchi wants to use the Ichigoman line to market to boys.
“Asked about her next challenge, Yamaguchi said she wants to attract boys. "I want boys to join the superhero Ichigoman fan club. Unlike other Sanrio characters, Ichigoman is a fighting character. We aim to make it into an anime and ultimately making it a TV series of a story about a hero."” http://ajw.asahi.com/article/cool_japan/style/AJ201301020001 Ps I do Have an Ichigoman plush in my collection. |

Well good luck to that, Yamaguchi. Maybe it works differently in Japan, but outside of Japan, Hello Kitty is way too tied to femininity to appeal to boys. You might as well try to appeal Barbie to boys.
Thanks. What I had in mind were western superhero names, which I'm more familiar with. |

I can be forgiven for thinking that it's a little odd for Hello Kitty to be a superheroine. She doesn't seem like the sort of character who would do that sort of stuff. If it's going to be a superhero comedy,I can see it. But,in other cases,I don't think I can see Hello Kitty as any sort of superheroine.
