These are great. I'm a fan of this idea in general (I recall one of the Amiibo also tried to replicate "old school" graphics in figure form, too).

You may believe this, but remember that Virtua Fighter 1 remains far easier to emulate than its successors.

There's a funny running-gag in the anthropomorphized-Sega-girls series "Hi-sCool Seha Girls" where the Saturn girl is the only one who thinks the Chan fighters are "handsome", while the others wonder, "Uh, don't they look sort of.......angular? "

Even in this digital age, some people like seeing old-school computer or video game graphics. I think it stems mainly from nostalgia. Congrats to this company for staying faithful to the original design.
