This season feels a bit different imo. Mostly because of the characters as they are replaced with new ones and we have a story that starts from fresh again.

I'm not sure how I feel about it but the action is kinda neat.

I really hope we find out more a lot more about the main characters though as there's potential with some of them.

Solid D from me so far. Other than Seimei, and the soudtrack(minus the terrible piano tune),it is generic schlock. The script is a mix of cliched and shitty dialogue. It's attempts at comedy fall flat, and clash against the tone. And the fights are tenesionless and boring.

It's amazing how terrible the production values are. It's only episode 2 and it's already using a ton of animation shortcuts, along with not being able to draw stuff proberly. Also got a laugh from the amount of facial scars they gave the villain(just to make sure you know he's evil).

Seimei is definitely the best part of the show at the moment. Raikou and Kintoki are both rather bland, and I can't help but compare them to the immediately more likable Alfonso and Leon.

Also, how on earth did Kintoki stay the exact same age from when Raikou was around ten or so?

I'm just amazed how generic and boring the art style is and how bad the production values are, if I hadn't gone in knowing it was MAPPA I would be totally shocked to learn they were the ones who animated it. The characters don't have any real character to them; I had to go rewatch episode one of S1 after I watched this and it was like a breath of fresh air. Blandest OP I've seen this season, too, which is pitiful because the one from the original series was visually breathtaking.

Some of you who watched Tiger and Bunny, or Zetman, may recognise mangaka Katsura Mazakazu's designs for the new Garo characters.

In fact, Katsura himself guest starred in an episode of the live action Garo series as a sketch artist, and guest voiced a minor character in the previous Garo anime.

An onmyodo is a sort of mystic who makes use of yin and yang, the five Chinese elements, and the natural sciences. Onmyodos were part of the government, and Abe no Seimei worked for the emperor directly.

Slight quibble, but if I'm not mistaken, onmyōdō is to onmyōji as magic is to magician or carpentry is to carpenter. That aside, I really enjoyed reading all the historical info provided.

I'm slowly warming up to this incarnation, but as much as I enjoyed the first season, it was one of those series that I only really liked while I was watching the episode, and then kept putting off watching the next one. This is starting to feel the same way.

(This part was confusing. He and his father were surrounded by Horrors, but the kid survived by...eating his father? He jumped up and bit his dad on the shoulder while the Horrors surrounded them. How did that resolve the situation? Like, “eating your father” suggests “so as not to starve in the wilderness,” not “to stave off dozens of assailants.” If someone could explain this to me, I'd be grateful.)

Not sure but I figured this worked 1 of 2 ways. 1st is that the kid was already a horror at the time. Since the dad was a knight though I doubt its this. 2nd is that the kid became a horror when he attacked his dad. That's the one I think is most likely the case. After all no reason for the other horrors to kill him if he is already/becomes a horror himself.

I think he was turned right then. They showed some magician looking guy then the next moment the kid jumped his dad. I thought it might have been mind control or something.

I wonder if Seimei isn't hundreds of years old or something. Using magic and alchemy to stay young. Would make her deep wisdom more believable for me.

Also as stated by everyone else, this show, visually, is terrible. It's a shame because the last few episodes of the prior Garo had some beautiful shots.

Wait, visually terrible?! Did Mappa somehow dropped the ball? I mean sure, most of their shows bombed HARD, but it can't be as bad as everyone said, right....right?

Wow, I was sooooo looking forward to check out this show, but my enthusiasm got quite a dive now.

Show got hit with the ugly bat hard. Which shouldn't be surprising, since the first season of Garo bombed hard, but the second episode of this season looks flatout broken at times.

I'd have never recognized his art from the actual show. Of course, I haven't really seen much of his work since his "Video Girl Ai" days. Katsura designed characters for the "Zeiram: The Animation" OVA as well, btw, which was also based on Keita Amemiya live-action monster movies, so obviously these two go way back.

As for where this series' money is coming from, I believe the answer is Sansei R&D, makers of unique pachinko machines! If you watch Garo on TV in Japan (whether live action or animation), you'll be treated to commercials like this after the OP, during the commercial break, and after the ED. (I can't help posting this when the opportunity presents itself; bizarro Sansei commercials are too much a part of the Garo experience!)

Hey Gabriella, I'm curious, have you had a chance to check out much in the way of the live action Garo series, and if so, what do you think?

Also, fun note, Raikou is voiced by the actor who played the protagonist in Garo: The Makai Flower (Season four).

Well, having fight choreographers on set and stuntmen are a bit different than actual animation. It might be cheaper to do the live action shots, I'm not entirely sure.

damn, the first epsiode was passable, but now we are in denpa kyoshi levels of quality, that kinda sucks.

about the kid being saved by killing his dad, I also assumed he became a horror right then.

and yep the garo people and katsura have been cozy, just like katsura and toriyama, katsura designed stuff for zeriam which got both an anime and a live action version.
