Going off of what the article said. I looked this tale up on Wikipedia. It said that the tale is called Den Lille Pige med Svovlstikkerne/[i], which meaning "The little girl with the matchsticks".

"The Little Match Girl" is the most common English translation of the title. Andersen wrote the story in 1846 and it's one of his best known; Disney recently released a version in their shorts collection on DVD/BD. The manga seems to take the basic premise of the story - that a girl freezing to death on a street corner sees visions as she lights the matches she's trying to sell - while taking out Andersen's religious themes and his habit of "saving" his pre-teen or teenage heroines by killing them.
It's not a happy story, but this sounds like an interesting version. If you're interested, you can read the original Andersen version here. |
