Aw, rats. I was kind of hoping it was a reboot. When you consider her health issues and the large amount of supposed filler in the first anime, D.Gray-man is kind of intimidating to start. I figured with 200+ chapters in the bag, it could kind of blast through it in 50 episodes or such.

The promo art makes it pretty obvious it's a continuation.

At least we get the confirmation that it will continue where the previous anime seasons has left off although I still wonder why the majority of the cast has been changed though.

Regardless, with about more than 200 chapters to catch up to, at least we will be with no fillers for a very long while.

Just give us an hour long recap please, I don't remember a damn thing about this series and I'm too old and too rich to go back and research 103 episodes to refresh myself.

It's a bit disappointing that it won't be a closer-to-the-source-material reboot, but at least the rest of the story is still getting animated, so it's still a plus.

What value would there be in a closer to the source reboot? The first anime was extremely close already. There were several filler arcs, yeah, but the main arcs were all faithfully adapted.

Besides, D.Gray-man actually had good filler that expanded on characters and concepts that got little focus in the manga.

There are not more than 200 chapters to catch up, just 60.

On one hand I'm extremely excited about this continuation and finally seeing the Kanda arc animated, but on the other hand, all the emphasis on "completely new staff" seems to confirm that Takahiro Sakurai won't reprise his role and that makes me terribly upset

Yeah, that was obvious from the poster.

If any of you have a problem with it not being a reboot, just read the manga or watch all the canon episodes. Razz

Awesome. Funimation better not get this though, unless they also plan to finish releasing the first series. Evil or Very Mad

I hope its a reboot actually cause darn going in and starting D.Gray-man at Episode 109 with a whole new cast of voice actors will be a punching bag to my soul, plus starting a episode 109 will be hard just because its starting right where it left off, I bet tons of people will be so lost.

I'm currently rewatching the anime but I'm pretty sure many will go in blind because of pretty Kanda and Allen just to watch them, not knowing what suffering they'll get themselves into.

Consistency for one. Just look at Hunter x Hunter, they could have just continued it from where the original series left off, but instead reanimated those 62 episodes and then went on for a total of 148.

It can be done and with the original being 10 years old now it isn't a terrible idea. From what I can tell they haven't started doing anything to prepare new potential fans for the new series. No BD release, no DVD rerelease, and no rebroadcast announced. It appears they're only making this for fans of the original and the manga with little interest in getting others on board. Even in the west Funimation has stalled at 51 episodes with nobody legally streaming the rest. It's really starting to look like this is being botched.

(I can kiss the old cast goodbye then)

I see "new" and then "continuation", and for some reason my dumb brain gets scrambled. Isn't that not a 3rd Exorcist in the visual?

So it's going to be filler? Possible? I'll have to wait for detail.
