Suguha is Kirito's cousin, not sister.

. . . technically her mom adopted him as a baby, so yes they basically are siblings in every sense except by direct blood.

If he was "technically" adopted, then they are "technically" not siblings.

While there technically isn't anything wrong with having an overpowered hero (children's and young adult fiction in the nineteenth century did it all the time), it is very old-fashioned, and today's readers often prefer their protagonists to have some flaws, serious or otherwise.
|
Overpowered protagonists are pretty much the norm nowadays in fantasy/SF light novels.

^ In light novels, absolutely. In sf/fantasy in English, the trend is on the wane with characters who tend towards emotional flaws that kick in at just the wrong moment.

I definitely agree about Sinon. She really makes this arc, which imo is probably the best one.
Though I also thought Kirito's conflict was handled much better. SAO and ALO were largely Kirito vs the Game. Yeah there were specific antagonists that he confronts at the end, but the meat of it was getting to the top / getting to the tree. This time from the start he is asked to check into Death Gun. It was also a personal conflict for him due to being related to his past actions where SAO was just survival and ALO was saving the princess.

That isn't really a cross; it would just be an MMOFPS. One is how the game is played while the other is the genre. Maybe you meant cross between an RPG and an FPS?

Maybe Asuna, but Kirito? The guy is god tier in anything he plays without having any experience with it at all...

|
I think the subtleness about that in SAO just comes from it being future events for those characters probably in combination with him just not having decided the specifics. AW clearly spells it out pretty quickly by referencing the past.

not exactly. she's still her aunt so it does make the two main characters of fairy dance blood related.just not as siblings.
dont know what was the goal of the author to have them as cousins for when he could have easily made them step siblings like in oreimo or blood related siblings like in aki sora & koi kaze ,but whatever works to keep the censorship police at bay. at least it didn't ended with those two together, otherwise those same fans (excluding the hardcore otakus) would be peeved to no ends.

Yes, that! Thanks - I knew something was off, but I couldn't quite put my finger on it.
You're right, Kirito is uncannily good at everything he plays. A better way for me to have put it would have been that Shino has the potential to be as good as him. She really is impressive, both as a player and as a character in general.

Not at all, I was saying that Kawahara has improved as a writer and that we can see Sinon's roots in Haruyuki.

I noticed the same thing when I watched the anime. It seems like he's gotten better at writing characters and character-based conflicts (like in Mother's Rosario).

I thought so as well... then I read Alicization.

I disagree. Kirito's good at exactly two things, VR movement, and VR swordsmanship. He had two years of doing both as a job to become proficient in them. Faced with the entirely new skill of VR marksmanship in GGO, and he sucks at it. His use of a gun consists of "shoot in their general direction and hope it throws them off or he gets lucky", and "shoot them at point blank range". There's nothing uncannily good there.
