Several volumes of the series Remote were also rated 18+ and, again, it's not hentai. It has fanservice, violence, and sexual themes but it's still not hentai. Basically, if a series has what might earn it an R-rating for nudity or sexual themes, it gets an 18+. Generally violence, unless it's uber extreme, just gets a 16+. The manga companies are afraid of currently non-existent anti-manga parent groups. |

If you don't care about what kind of book you're actually and just want to show off to your friends that you're reading something 18+, look no further than 801!
But seriously, here's a list of all the Mature manga from Tokyopop. Out of all of those I've only read NHK, but I'd highly recommend it. The only other Mature manga that haven't been mentioned that I can think of at the moment are Suzuka and Madara. I found Madara to be an odd case, as the only "bad" thing I remember is a single shot of full-frontal nudity. If that's all it takes for CMX to consider something mature, no wonder Tenjho Tenje got the treatment it did. (Then again I've only read the first volume, so I might be jumping to conclusions here.) I'm sure there are others, but I've already shut my brain off for tonight and recommendation threads aren't even allowed right now anyways. Beserk is infamous for its extreme violence, gore, brutality and graphic sex, including rape. Heck, the sex scenes are flat out pornographic.
Battle Royale has a bunch of teenagers sent to an island to slaughter each other in a very graphic manner. It also contains graphic sex.
Check out Negima. Lots of fanservice that you will like. It also has an enormous cast (30+ girls). It's one of my current favorites and I highly recommend it. However, this post makes me question your original post. What do you mean by 18+? Because I''s is NOT 18+ even in its uncut version.
Hunter x Hunter is one of the more violent shonen manga, but it is far from being 18+ material. |

Yeah, specifying only the age rating you'd like isn't a terribly accurate way to find what you're looking for. And the connotation of mature can be interpretted a couple of ways. For example, Negima! (which is actually only rated 16+), might be called mature in the sense that there is a decent amount of nudity, but it also contains typical juvenile harem, fanservice, and fighting action (and I mean that in the best possible way).
For something mature in a slightly more thought provoking sense, perhaps Death Note (I don't know the official rating) is worth a try with its mind games and questions of morality. Or if you just want sex and violence, something like Bastard!! (rated "M") might work fine. |

At least, I seem to remember reading something to that effect. I've been suffering from major insomnia lately so my brain's foggy. And just to add in my 2 cents worth, Negima! is great if you want fanservice, lots of cute and cool girls, and/or magical adventure. It is awesome. |

Being one who would know of Japanese release only titles, can offer you titles such as Spider Sniper and Ichi the Killer, if you are interested in starting Japanese. Ichi the killer outdoes Berserk and even Battle Royale on psychology, definetly. Spider Sniper takes a more comic sense on violence, but the sex factor outdoes the violence by a long shot. You probably will never see Spider Sniper released in the US.

I have a lot of 18+ manga right near me...but of course, their all BL ;P
That said, Moyoco Anno's "Flowers and Bees" is an awesome seinen title rated 18+. It's really crazy (what else would you expect from a woman who married Hideaki Anno?), but there is a message in it about the pride of beauty. It's about this guy with no self-esteem or self-respect who tries to become more attractive to get this girl he likes. She also wrote an awesome 18+ josei series called "Happy Mania." Most of the works by my favorite mangaka, Erica Sakurazawa, are 18+. She does one-shots, so you buy only one book and not have a commitment to buy more of a series. Her works are so good that you'll want more, however. |

...no. The sex scenes, of which there are...only three or four, if I remember, are reasonably graphic, but they all serve a purpose...they're not pornography. The rapes are all there for plot advancement. Anyways, OP dude...Berserk is the best thing you can get. Aside from it, check out Eden, a very mature series that will leave you floored. Gantz, Battle Royale, Strain, and Koroshiya Ichi are also well worth checking out. |

If you want gratuitous sex for the sake of it, pick up some porn or something.
If the main way you make your manga selection is 'how adult is it' then you don't really have much else to worry about. It's like turning up at the video rental store and just grabbing anything as long as it is R rated. There are plenty of violent manga out there. There are plenty of pornographic manga out there. Do you not have any other constraints on what you want to see? Do you just want to escape from reading Yu-gi-oh or whatever you consider to be the 'childish' manga that you read at the moment? Berserk is pretty graphic in both violence and sexual content, but I consider it all to be totally part of the story and absolutely in context, but if you want to get more extreme, pick up some hentai and who cares about the rest? Eden is also rated mature, but so far I am finding it to be an awesome story. (Not really noticing the 'mature' aspects at the moment, but perhaps I am either a bit blase or I am not far enough into it...) If you want adult (as in grown up) themes, then that is certainly out there, but it wont rely on being violent or sexual in order to crank up the ratings. I mean, Buddha, by Osamu Tezuka, is not at all 'mature' in the ratings, but has a thought provoking and meaningful story that transcends any needs for violence to add to its appeal. If you want guns, swords and lasers, surely some normal shonen titles will fill that void? Bleach is pretty fun... |
