Again the money can be better spent on giving said releases a proper disk authoring instead of doing it in house using disks bought at the local walgreens

well... it's Hentai after all (incest)

It's interesting how they are calling it anime.

My only guess is because they didn't show the genitals (still softcore materials).

Also maybe because it is still animated by a non-hentai animation studio (Hoods, although their works can get pretty close) and distrubuted by a mainstream publisher (Pony Canyon I believe). But Aki Sora is interesting: its more explicit than most OVA's, yet not enough as actual hentai.

It's softcore hentai. It's pretty much hentai without showing genitals (even though they will be censored out anyway)

I noticed certain hentai series are available for rent from Blockbuster (out of businsess now) and netflix

series like

Dragon Knight: The Wheel of Time
Kite (1st one)
Mezzo Forte

they removed the sex scenes and voila! you got anime Laughing

I guess softcore sex is fine, since it's like watching a rated R movie with sexuality in it.

Being hentai doesn't mean it isn't an anime, anymore than a movie being pornography doesn't make it a movie.

if you want to play in the gray area..

anime or hentai
movie or porn

there's a reason why people use them separately. It is to identify the suitable audience for that particular media product

would you play a porn video at a family meeting full of kids? ( i hope not)

it's still a movie right ? movie time for the kids?

...and therefore it's not hentai. It's just an anime OVA nothing more. Didn't rate it much though.

...Okay, why, Media Blasters?

Porn is not some completely separate medium from film. It's a genre. Hentai anime isn't redundant as that's a "genre-medium" phrase too. Just because you can use just the term porn to refer to a porn flick as, doesn't mean that the phrases, "porn film/movie", can't be used. Also, the kids argument is just nonsense. Would you show movies like Alien or Mad Max at a family meeting full of kids?

Also, here's what Merriam-Webster's Learner's Dictionary (because the regular one only has pornography listed) listed for the word porn:
[noncount] informal
: pornography
making/selling porn
— often used before another noun
a porn movie
the porn industry

Even Webster used porn movie as a phrase.

Perhaps Media Blasters found a super-niche audience somewhere when they decided to green-light an English version for this show?

It doesn't change the fact that the latter is a subset of the former.

There is also the fact that per the article, "Neither the manga nor the two anime projects were released in Japan as adults-only", which means labeling this as hentai would appear to be incorrect.

Aki Sora isn´t hentai but a seinen manga and thus an all ages publication. This is why it got trashed by the government. Here is my 1/10 Mu review for the uninitiated:
Too hot for japan !?!
So the manga was crap of the highest order and an adaptation of the hentai Oneechan no Onegai as well but we ALL read it for some reason. I even rated the hentai 1 point higher because it is at least honest and short. The quality is bottom of the barrel for obvious reasons but the entertainment level is quite immeasurable so i may be able to recommend it for a good laugh. Just beware of bukkake, incestuous rape and orgys and a plenty. The manga could have gone on if Akita Shoten (the masters of disasters) reclassified it as "real" porn but hey didn´t. Good i say because i was about to jump off too if it had gone on longer and his was a one time affair for me. Her (?) other near identical claptrap won´t grace my reading list. This comment section though is a must read and Badkarma´s is the best of course. Even the manga genre is locked. Amazing! If you want to have real fun then read the chapters in reverse order as it made the same amount of sense to me as the "right" way. Finally how crazy is it that this manga is dedicated to a dead friend of the author. I am truly at a loss of words for once.

Every time I see Media Blasters in a news headline I can't help but think "Wait, they're not dead yet?", followed by "Why the heck are they doing that?". I guess John is just too damn stubborn to give up.

And we are still waiting on Ladies vs. Butlers to get released. This title, however, is something I will avoid, given what it's about. I don't think MB should really be licensing titles as much if they are going to delay previously announced titles even more.
