Wait, you mean that WASN'T Boo the Pomeranian?
In any case, there was no indication saying that the live-action movie was going to be the first part of only a two-parter, just that they have a concrete release date for Part 2. While it diverges heavily from the source material (which I think was a wise decision), it feels like there's still a lot of ground to cover by the end of the movie, more so than I'd expect a Part 2 to go through.

I think the Free dub is actually pretty good! ...IF you're going by the performances themselves. The script is, uh, noticeable early on (I mean, how many times are they gonna say "dude" or "man"? "I've got BACKSTROKE FOR DAYS"?) The script for episode 3 was pretty good, I think, and J. Micheal Tatum's performance as Rei in that episode was really good. And Johnny Yong Bosch as Makoto is charming as hell. Oops, I'm rambling...
Anyway, it's kinda like this for me: With the Japanese version, I wanna give the cast a big hug. With the dub, I wanna pound fists with them. A different kind of connection (so far anyway), but still, a good connection.

What are people getting upset about in Fire Emblem: Fates? Did I miss something?
Sorry, but the "why people are upset" wasn't mentioned xD Last thing I heard was people celebrating some LGBT+ content.

I'm inclined to think Zac is right that somebody is holding out right now for DBZ Super. I can't imagine Funimation wouldn't have done everything in its power to get it. Also, if they somehow didn't get it, I would think that whoever did would be crowing about it by now.

DBZ Super is the kind of thing where there will be a lot of planets & stars that have to line up. It'll happen in it's own good time.

I was a little disappointed to hear that neither Zac nor Hope had seen any of the Free! Eternal Summer dub, because it's sometimes difficult to step away from the echo chambers of Twitter or, particularly, Tumblr and see what people at large think of something, but I do think Hope's reason for not watching any of it perfectly encapsulates what I found wrong with the dub as a whole, and I generally like dubs.
I was neither one of the dub-haters nor one of the blind Funimation fangirls with a particular opinion of the casting choices, so I waited patiently to see for myself how it would turn out. I had the same initial horrified reaction as the rest of Free! fandom to the "dudebroing" of these beloved characters, particularly of the completely unnecessary vulgarity, but at the same time I wanted to believe the dub had more beyond it than "let's make these guys act more like 'normal' teenagers, and fangirl it up ala Ouran, characterization be damned." Four episodes in I can safely say the "dudes" and "mans" are less frequent and more tolerable, but it is very clear to me the characterization choices are either all in the individual actor performances, or completely non-existent. That's not to say any particular actor isn't giving a perfectly acceptable performance. I think each of these seasoned VAs does their job just fine, it's the overall focus, or lack thereof, of the dub script and/or direction that is lacking, particularly Haru's character. In the case of the protagonist of this series, I just have to hope they have a plan to deal with his character arc in this season, since they have completely ignored all the subtlety of the Japanese performances up to this point.
I say it's particularly difficult to step away from the echo chamber on Tumblr because the way Tumblr works is a big geeky clique who determine at large whether something is worthy or not and everyone piles on. The kerfuffle over Vic Mignogna's casting in particular (apparently he's anime dubbing Satan if Tumblr is to be believed) was met with a litany of false accusations and chest beating "woe is me's," which in and of itself was enough to give me pause as to their validity. However, even after watching the first episode and deciding I rather liked his performance and wondered if those haters would rethink their violent emotional reaction to his casting given that he was probably the most emotionally spot on and understood his character the best of the performances in the first episode, I was met with the natural Tumblr philosophy of "once bad, always bad," which continues to strike me as totally disingenuous.
Not being able to distinguish between your personal feelings about a person and the work they create, with a few exceptions for wildly inappropriate behavior in their private lives, of course, is something that can easily taint anyone's impression of your opinions. And I've found myself with that impression of my fellow Free! fandomers, and while I haven't interacted with the Funimation fan side of this debate, I'm led to believe the same blind devotion sustains there as well. So, yeah, I was disappointed not to get Hope or Zac's impressions as professional critics, but I think Hope is totally spot on over why this dub has nothing in it worth spending her time to watch it.

I assume they were talking about the Soleil controversy. In her support dialogue with the Avatar she talks about how whenever she sees cute girls she starts feeling dizzy and faint. She sees this as a weakness and wants the Avatar's help. The Avatar then secretly gives her a potion which causes her to see people as the opposite gender in order to get more comfortable talking to girls.
The controversy comes from people interpreting Soleil's weakness as her liking to cute girls while in reality it's her dizziness and fainting. That's where the "homophobic" claims come from.
There's also talks about the whole giving someone a magic potion without their consent but that's more of a side discussion.

I'm really curious about what Zac and Hope have to say about the English version of Free! Eternal Summer...
So far, the reception of the show hasn't been faring so well.

That potion sounds horrifically dangerous in the wrong hands.

Zac's comments on the recent editorial changes were quite welcome, as are those changes themselves. It's very easy to get in the rut of a routine and not notice as you fall out of sync with what your readership wants and needs.
The more informal editorial voice, the episodic reviews, the sunsetting of columns… all good moves. Especially the columns. I edited a news/education/community site for software developers for about five years (paid for by Sun/Oracle, but editorial content from O'Reilly), and the columns were never worth the trouble -- few had a strong voice or focus, or were even produced in a timely or quality fashion, and in some cases they'd been given out to friends of the site as favors. In retrospect, it was my problem to fix, but instead of doing so, I unwittingly let things get to a point where they were so bad that I just eliminated all of them at once, with the better writers moving on to ad hoc pieces as needed.
Zac's lucky to have reliable column-writers like Mike Toole and Bamboo Dong, but their stuff would still find an audience without the schedule and branding that comes with a column. More and more, the idea of a column seems like a relic of newspapers.
FWIW, maybe it's just warm fuzzies from the editorial changes, but after 11 years, I finally decided to kick in the bucks to be a proper subscriber earlier tonight. Hitting this site three times a day, I've kind of felt like a freeloader for a while.

Wow Zac... really? Everything is bland to you? I'm afraid you've gotten really jaded lately. Not that I'm faulting you for it, but dude... you need to liven up a little. You're really going to stop watching anime at this rate, and I think that would suck for you.

I hate to say it, but based on what I've seen, Chain could have almost been cut completely from BBB. I think she's only really contributed anything twice in 10 episodes. Which is a shame, because I feel like I would like Chain if I knew anything about her.
