Pfffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffft. I cannot believe that this picture actually caused a commotion. That is too funny.

Kinda dumb. Looked like it was all in good fun. But a single shift lost isn't a big deal anyway.

Er... Insensitive, maybe, ill-advised, yes. But not hate speech like we've been seeing from police on the news lately. Seems a bit harsh, but with everything that's been going on... maybe not surprising.

Her career is over. You told on a "brother in blue" over a meme picture? Yeah, enjoy your blacklisting from every department for being a tattle tale. Hope she doesn't plan on calling for backup anytime soon, they might not be coming.
It's sad you can't even trust your co workers in this day and age.

Somewhat hilarious really. That image is so common at this point it's bordering on cliché. I think I would be more upset if the comment looked to be intended as serious, but let's be honest: I don't think anyone who has used that image intends for it to be taken that seriously.

Memes can't leak out like that when you're off 4chan. Though, obviously yeah, that picture is highly inappropriate. A rather light punishment to be honest. Gotta wonder if the guy keeps track of the amount of money he puts into the lottery before celebrating his 'winnings'.

No, we're not defending them, but the officer clearly didn't post that image out of racist thoughts or hate. Was it inappropriate? Possibly, but it's nothing to raise a work-related stink over.

If I am among those who you claim to be defending racial pejoratives, let me explain myself to some degree: Yes, I think what he did in a work setting is inappropriate, but at the same time, I don't see any malice intended. I care more about the intent than the words themselves.

That's the African American vernacular version which is not offensive.

For a moment I thought it was a Japanese police officer getting into trouble until I started reading the article. What I'm wondering though is how this even became news.

The insensitive officer might not have had ill intentions, but he/she is still using a racist term.

Of course it is offensive. The N word is an awful term that should not exist.

So it seems that Clannad is finally in the public spotlight...
Unfortunately, it's the wrong kind of publicity that I hoped shows like it wouldn't ever fall into.
As racially offensive as this officer's memento is, this is kiddy stuff compared to other sorts of speeches that I've heard/read from other police officers; if anything, I've seen and/or heard of rogue officers make speeches that are far worse than this and they never see themselves face any serious disciplinary action being implemented against them (This isn't to say that I condone this racially-tinged memento- Mr. Blunt's reprimand is just in this case).

strange. after working with someone for so long you can generally grasp what you can and cannot say to that person. i guess the recent events didn't do him any favors though

In all seriousness, if THAT is something that offends you, turn in your gun and badge right now. Your job is to be the voice of calm and reason when you have people literally in your face, shouting at you. Or when people are screaming and dying, you're supposed to maintain your cool. If you can't handle a little racism that's meant in the name of fun and humor (and not actually meant to be hateful or violent) then you shouldn't be entrusted with the safety and wellbeing of others. Cause they'll be the first to panic and start gunning innocent people.
