Regardless of the reasons for these hiatuses, this makes a HxH hiatus seem good (when comparing it to a series that has been running almost 30 years).

HxH´s hiatus ridden schedule is nothing as X had 2 separate anime adaptation run their course while the series... My amazon/Mu review for FSS to sell new readers on it:
A vast space opera for the ages (8,5/10)
Every proper mecha and space opera fan has heard of this manga but it is a shame that it has been forgotten by the current audience and that the first anime movie is the only real adaptation. The scenario alone screams video game adaptation! The sheer scope of the story over stretches a bit i must admit and some of the many stories are better then others but the Joker galaxy is still a place i want to return to and will now that the manga has finally gone out of hiatus...in a way. I have no idea what is up with the related Gothicmade movie or Five Star Monogatari Tracer and how they tie in but it is somehow fitting that the series is a bit of a mess to this day. The art is gorgeous, the designs are one of a kind and the much discussed setting is almost too well established. There is violence and nudity but nothing too crazy and i bought the depiction of a war torn land for the most part. Actions have reactions down the line which makes me believe that we are ultimately going somewhere even if the ending is still far out of reach. If you liked the Legend of the Galactic Heroes (10/10) anime then this epic should be for you and isn´t it awesome that the similar Crest of the Stars (YONEMURA Kouichirou) (8,5/10) is being readapted too. It´s a glorious space age we live in and let´s hope that a translation of the remaining and new volumes comes sooner then later as the ones i have read kept up the high quality.

With a publishing schedule like this, I guess George RR Martin detractors don't have anything to complain about by comparison.

When I was 17, Five Star Stories was my favorite manga. I had only been watching anime and reading manga for a couple of years, and I had never seen anything that looked like Nagano's artwork.
Looking back, the story was absolutely ridiculous, but I still fondly remember characters like Maximum H.O.L.T.F.O.R.S. Ballance Kaien (First Easter Mirage Corps Knight #22, the 12th Duke of Fates, the Star King of Farndom, the wielder of The Big Black Sword, etc.) and their quest to defeat "the S.A.T.A.N."!

The real shame is the author has an ego about his mecha in this series he refuses to license them out for other adaptions outside of the 1 movie. Reason Gothicmade took forever to come out and was pretty bad was cause of his ego. That and he is choosing to go with the anorexic designs from Gothicmade now for FSS if I remember correctly.

@Amiantos Yep you remmeber correctly. He (and George Railroad Martin) needs an editor so badly it ain´t even funny (and i changed my references in the review(s) to the English wording.)

I'm torn between anger (for the time we have been waiting since the last volume) and joy (to have this sequel).

Man I forgot about the manga. I mean is this the same story that was compiled from all those Newtype magazines that were released back in the early 80's? Hell, I remember when Mamoru Nagano was a thing way back when. And yeah, that film was a sad OAV treasure. One day we may see it again. Nine years is a long time.
