This is pretty unfortunate to hear. Karneval's art is a big part of why I thought I might try out the manga, but it sounds like even that has fallen in this publication. Guess I will give it a skip.

I'm not sure Yen Press is at fault considering the blurring. For comparison, here's the Japanese cover.

I haven't seen the book, but I have had blurring and printing issues on b/w pages (i don't mean colour pages in greyscale) of other books by various publishers. They're usually not widespread throughout an entire print run—it could very well just be a single bad copy the reviewer was sent.
If you're really concerned, pick the book up from a store and flip through to make sure it looks good before you buy it (even if you place a special order if the book isn't in stock, I think a bookstore would be reasonable enough to return/exchange a book for printing errors.) |

The blur of the cover is intentional.
When you look closer, it's not even a blur, but more the effect of double-lines similar to when you look at a 3D image without the glasses. It could even be called "false 3D" or "3D imitation". Moreover, Mikanagi uses this technique on the other color illustrations as well. Yes that it is: a technique, not a printing mistake. 
Actually... My concern was some use of words and sayings that a non-native english reader like me has a hard time understanding. |

That's very interesting - I guess my problem then is not with the printing, but with the technique. Even knowing that it still feels disconcerting to see a blurred image, possibly because it makes me panic that I'm not wearing my glasses.
I can see what you mean about the language, although I mostly chalked it up to "specialized world-building words" in this book. |
