Hey Shuka, maybe next season you could, ya know, spend the budget on making your actual series not look like shit instead of theatre only bonus episodes.

There were bonus episodes in season 1 too. |

Yes but I don't recall Durararara looking like it was on such a tight budget that they made the characters thinner to save on digital paint (hyperbole). |

With an episode that is likely 25-30 min. long, I don't see the point of putting in theaters and feel it makes more sense just to have it as an OAD.

No offense, but "The episode will last 25 minutes, and will have 25 minutes of theater-only extra footage." kinda makes it sound like the episode lasts 50 minutes in theaters... (Though us westerners get screwed with being only able to see this extra 25 mins from some crappy camrips...) |

I agree that Shou looked like it was on a lesser budget, especially that episode with Verona's past. In terms of artstyle, it seems like they are trying to make it look closer to the artwork from the source material. But yeah, I prefer the way season 1 was done a lot more too. |

Yeah, that something I never quite understood (maybe it's a mentality or a cultural thing), but having a movie of an hour-or-so just doesn't seem worth it, personally. Dragon Ball Z's 4 first movies were 40-min. long, 45-min. long, or 1-hour long (#1, #4, #2 & #3 respectively), or One Piece's movies #2 & #3 (both at 55-min. long). Under 90 min. long, I won't go see it, because the travel time and costs can't be justified with a 45-min. screening. |

@Hamayadea
What you're not considering is the fact that those short anime movies are never screened by themselves. They're almost always double-features with another 30-60 minute movie, especially the Shonen Jump films. Which, in most cases, does bump up the total runtime to one-and-a-half or two hours. Having said that, this Durarara episode isn't actually a movie, it's a special that just happens to be getting a theatrical screening for promotional purposes. In this case, it's unlikely to be screened alongside anything else, and as such is likely to only be worth the price of admission for huge fans of the series. |
