As a huge fan of The Guest and You're Next, I can attest that Adam Wingard is the perfect choice to direct the Death Note movie. Im very excited now.

I've been waiting for a Death Note hollywood movie for years. Glad it's FINALLY happening.

Third director, huh? I guess it's going to be like Akira, and not actually happen.

You're Next and The Guest are two of the best movies in recent memory.
As much as I like Shane Black, Winguard is a much better fit for the material.

I'm disappointed that Shane Black isn't directing since he convinced WB to nix the planned changes to the source material. Let's hope that these guys continue Shane Black's plan. Thankfully, Adam Wingard at least has a good track record so far. I wonder if Masi Oka is involved, he'd be able to convince the casting director to get Asians.

I haven't seen You're Next, but I do know it's R-rated. And it's always a challenge for a director of those types of movies to transition to something which will inevitably be PG-13.

This again.
Well, at least it seems the people behind this attempt actually know what they're doing. I'll admit I'm looking forward to it. More than the live-action Ghost in the Shell, anyway. ;

Ehhh... based off of the quality of the writing in the Lazarus Effect, I'm still a little worried for this script.

The musical, the Japanese live-action TV show coming, and this... Death Note's doing pretty well for itself several years after publication.

In a small city in California a teen is doing high school work when a black book called the Killing Note falls from the sky. A Grim Reaper Rock observes the teen named David Smith or as the world would soon know him Killer...
Okay that's harsh >_>

I wouldn't count on it. This project's been in development hell for years. Names being attached to a project mean nothing in hollywood. Morgan Freeman has been attached to an adaptation of the Arthur C Clarke novel, Rendezvous With Rama, for 15 years. It's never even gotten off the ground. Nothing's concrete til filming starts, and even then it's not concrete.

You're Next was a great horror movie. I think he is a good choice as director.

Honestly, the Japanese setting isn't exactly the most important part of Death Note, it's the story of an ordinary young man's descent into madness when given powers no man should ever have. You could replace Light Yagami with an American kid named Lucius Godwin and tell almost exactly the same story.

It's unfortunate that this has been in development hell for so long. A Hollywood Death Note film could be so amazing.

I'm holding all reservations until the official plot-summary releases for this adaption.
