rpg fantasy genre, yea sign me up. This looks to be very promising and that synopsis is fascinating. Might just be my most anticipated anime for the summer.

1 cour show. Calling it now considering the amount of work that Madhouse has stacked this year with OPM to come for Fall after this.

I just love the connections I spotted here:
ANN wrote: | Satoshi Hino (Log Horizon's Isaac, Yowapeda's Hayato Shinkai, Bakuman's Akito Takagi) is returning from the drama CDs to star as the protagonist Momonga |
Another VR-themed anime, and was in a quite prominent role.
ANN wrote: |
Emiri Katō , Yumi Hara, and Sumire Uesaka are also returning to their roles as Aura Bella Fiore, Albedo, and Shalltear Bloodfallen, respectively. |
Log Horizon's Akatsuki and Marielle, respectively.
ANN wrote: | Naoyuki Itou (Iriya no Sora, UFO no Natsu; Digimon: Data Squad) will direct the series this summer at MADHOUSE. |
The animation studio behind No Game, No Life, Hunter × Hunter (2011) (it had a significant VR arc)
ANN wrote: | Yukie Sugawara (Sword Art Online, Nanana's Buried Treasure, The irregular at magic high school) is in charge of the series' scripts |
Do I need to elaborate?
ANN wrote: | Takahiro Yoshimatsu (Hunter × Hunter, Trigun, Jubei-Chan The Ninja Girl - Secret of the Lovely Eyepatch) is adapting the character designs. |
Again, it had a big VR arc.
I think that the anime production isn't a big as some might think (inter-personal connection-wise, not popularity- or revenue-wise), so it's nice to see when those dots line up.

I wouldn't be so sure (I mean, I generally agree, but it isn't certain), they animated Hunter x Hunter (2011) from late-2011 to late-2014, and they animated other 2-cour shows simultaneously - such as: Hajime no Ippo: Rising and Mahōka Kōkō no Rettōsei, in addition to working on Daiya no Ace from late-2013 (although one can argue that because it was/still is co-animated by Production I.G it doesn't fully count). And while working on Hunter x Hunter (2011), Daiya no Ace and Mahōka Kōkō no Rettōsei they animated No Game, No Life as well (and Hanayamata the following Season), so they had 2 cours were they worked on 4 shows simultaneously.
Generally LN adaptations get a 1-cour anime, but it is possible for MADHOUSE to pull their weight to create both this show and One-Punch Man as 2-cour shows.

Another trapped in the game, but this one's voluntary. Still though these may collectively signify Japan's unconscious fear for MMO gaming, so they've largely stayed out of it save for a handful.

Counting what I know the only trapped in a video game series I have seen so far are Sword Art Online and Log Horizon, so this genre shouldn't be too overused yet. The art looks average and there wasn't enough to see what the animation will be like (but mostly likely awesome since it's madhouse), but that synopsis really caught my attention. Not only did the main character voluntarily stay in the game, he is acting as the bad guy? Now that's interesting. Game Theme + Anti-Hero + Madhouse = Must Watch

Mumra got quite the design change. Pretty iffy on this one. It'll have to have something to distinguish itself for the story for me to latch on.

...oh sh*t
to think only last month i got caught up with the updated chapters and wishing it was animated. i figured with the whole trapped in a video game being popular this one just might get animated, and lo and behold its happened.
i dont see it lasting very long, since admittedly though i enjoy it very much its not exactly groundbreaking or very original. Id say 12-13 episodes with little to no chance of a second season though i sincerely hope im wrong.
first prison academy then one-punch man and now this. seems this year is chock full of amazing stuff. even the games: break record, MGS5 and P5 are nothing to sneeze at.
Gonna be a great year

Oh shit I remember some guy I knew talking about the light novels a few months ago and how awesome they were. I read the synopsis and just realized this was the same series he was talking about. I not sure about the premise but Madhouse is cool.

Fantasy setting...will be checking this one out. Have to see how it goes, being another game-based setting for an anime. I'm just a sucked for fantasy settings, be they game or otherwise.

This looks pretty awesome (and I'm a sucker for skull-headed characters). I think I'll keep an eye on it.
