Of course. TMS is one of the greediest, most obstinate anime studios, who won't even let you use clips in a review video. I can't blame them for wanting to protect IP, but the ridiculous lengths they go to for the fistful of yen they might save by stomping on their fanbase is just obscene.
Anime execs making all the money, screwing over the consumer and the workers (animators, writers, etc), lecturing us about not recording in the theater. It makes me vomit. |

Japan's copyright laws are so bad that you can potentially go to jail just for torrenting. Not for uploading, simply downloading. And I doubt that these laws will be changed anytime soon.

it's already draconian enough. If they passed the TPP with the draconian clause about cosplaying and Dojinshi considered as copyright infringement. |

I understand the idea of protecting one's IP, and support it, but some outlet (not necessarily just anime studios) swing the bat too hard to the other side, preventing the usage of clips (a la Nintendo), making parodies of their works, or at times even posting critical reviews.
Truth by told, more-often-than-not the anti-piracy laws and measures hurt the legitimate owners than the illegitimate ones, but there isn't a clear-cut Silver Bullet and magically separates between the two groups of users. |

Fuji TV is 10x worse, that's why you hardly ever see even a raw of Sazae-san on the internet and if you do (and I have seen them off and on), it's nothing short of a miracle and you best watch it now if you want to see the episode because they'll take it down before the day is over. |

It's not only Fuji TV, but NHK (and most of Japan's TV network) take down stuff from Youtube. The best thing to watch is on Dailymotion, but I don't like dailymotion because it slowed down my browser and the video player really is terrible. Also since Dailymotion has a office in Japan, I don't know how long until Japanese companies ask/demand Dailymotion to take down all the video on there. |

I can understand taking down entire episodes or excessively long clips, but when the clips are being used in a review video, that's covered under Fair Use law, and YouTube just lets these companies roll right over them despite that. |

Well it's Japan, they don't follow the rule of "natural" international copyright law. Heck, even the way they interpret economic is weird at time (I can say the same for their business culture). But regarding taking down entire episodes and long clip, I just think it stupid and unfair. They should be left on for comparison. I don't see anything wrong with putting episode. I mean Japanese TV stations really need their own YT channel to upload their shows no there, I mean I know one Korean station that does this. But as I said, Japan's copyright is too draconian. |

which is why their using IP addresses from other countries where their laws are pretty laxed. especially in the US. |

So I guess I'm the only pirate here who won't try to use mental gymnastics to say it's not illegal or companies have no right to protect their IPs. Kinda funny to see a lot of people criticize this.
This kind of mentality is why more and more doujin authors or doujinsoft creators don't sell their games to Americans anymore and distrust Americans who try to buy their works. Too many entitled pirates. People could at least admit it's wrong. |

There's a gulf of difference between keeping people from filesharing entire commercially available works and stomping on people making AMVs for their YouTube channel, now isn't there? The Japanese companies have EVERY right to rigorously protect their property. But having the legal right to and having the moral authority to slap their consumers around with draconian rules are two different matters. |
