I seem to recall Natsu from Fairy Tail giving this warning at the beginning of episodes not too long ago. I don't know if this was kept for home video releases though. |

What that Pokemon seizure thing caused that you do still see is action scenes being dramatically dimmed in the TV broadcast when a lot's happening on screen. And this is for late night anime that kids aren't watching.

Just rewatched GaoGaiGar and I was surprised to see a ton of strobe effects. Wonder if those were problematic for sensitive viewers as well.

I heard they cut down on the seizure imagery since then, it's for the best though, better safe than sorry.
As for the drug problem in the entertainment industry in Japan, this wouldn't be such an issue if the stress problems were addressed, these studios need to hire counselors that deal with stress so that the talent can deal with it in a positive way and not turn to meth. Also, quiet rooms, and exercise rooms should be implemented. A cheaper alternative is mandatory Tai-Chi something I actually did when I was in college granted there was exercise rooms and one quiet room as well. |

About the Chage and Aska and the drug incident: As Justin said, it's not only Japan. But most Asian countries like South Korea, and China has that similar culture and contract clause regarding bad behavior. I've seen drug scandals in K-pop which can really tarnish their reputation, even a rumour can cause a problem in K-pop. But that's another topic I won't discussed here.
About the lack of anime adaptation of western stories/novels: Yeah I think I can understand why there's not a lot of western stories adaptation. I have another reason: anime becoming a niche rather then a mainstream thing. Remember another Answerman article Justin said this:
I have nothing to add about the region blocking since I already know about it. Now for the Pokemon shock: Ah yes, I remember that incident (and it wasn't the first time, and it didn't involved Pokemon). it got parodied and references in US mainstream media. I understand why the "please watch this anime in a well-lit room and sit far away from the TV" warning was created. Couple thing that surprised me when I read this:
I didn't know Pokemon stuff were removed from video stores in Japan after the incident. Also as Justin said, there hasn't been a incident for 15 years so that's why the warning is no longer there (unless another incident happen again). Overall, I enjoy this week Answerman. |

Isn't another reason western fans aren't seeing the "please watch in a well-lit room, 3 metres from the TV" warning anymore being that western fans are more and more opting to watch legal streams instead of taped-off-Japanese-television fansubs?
(I'm not saying that the warnings aren't in decline on Japanese TV, but, if I can watch legal streams for free, I'm not going to see the anti-seizure warnings from the Japanese TV broadcast scrolling at the bottom of the screen.) My favourite anti-seizure warning: how it was incorporated into Chiaki's "dlisclaimer" at the beginning of Minami-ke. "This is a plain depiction of the days of the lives of the three Minami sisters. Please don't expect too much. Also, watch in a well-lit room and please keep at least three metres from the TV screen." |

Actually, most of the dimming was on afternoon cartoons, too, even for US Pikachu's own lightning attacks, and can be seen on most US and JP-import mainstream series. And yes, "Please sit back from the TV" was used for a lot of early-00's little-kid shows, but since the problem was never repeated, the warning sort of fell off. As for adaptation of Western books, we'd had a flood of Ghibli adaptations (Arietty, Marnie, Howl), and it seems to be a question of how many Western books they actually read, and whether those books actually conform to Japanese tastes. Victorian/Edwardian English literature seems to be the most "European-looking", and draws most of the adaptations. And those fans who've actually read Borrowers and Howl's Moving Castle will note the particular cultural differences after passing through Japanese readers. |

Hear! Hear! You have to wait for the disc release to see those scenes how they originaly were supposed to look like. Maybe they shoul add an option to streams to say you are an adult without visualy trigered disorders. |

I wish there'd be more adaptations of the Western classics. Maybe an animated version of "Crime and Punishment" or "La Reine Margot". Or another adaptation of "The Count of Monte Cristo" (as good as Gankutsuou was, I'd prefer it to stay a little more the source material).

But they have an official Youtube channel, now, where you can hear their classic hits. But anyway, the bigger question is when the hell are we gonna get that On Your Mark anime? At least upload the damned thing, so people can watch it legally.
Though I'm still surprised there isn't a Harry Potter anime by now.
Well, that didn't stop Earthsea.
You can get it online. |

Ah, yes, that TV seizure warning...I think it's more common around anime shows made between the late 1990's and early 2000's.
In fact, I just got this warning while I'm [currently] watching Steel Angel Kurumi. I liked how creatively funny the folks presented it in that show. Edit: Ah, 1100 posts. Last edited by Mr. Oshawott on Fri Mar 20, 2015 3:53 pm; edited 1 time in total |

Steel Angel Kurumi had something similar, I believe. |

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Pokémon Porygon or its evolutions have never appeared in the Pokémon anime after that episode. It seems they're still trying to avoid further controversy.
Also, on the drugs issue, the composer of the Death Note and Kaiji soundtracks also got busted for some drugs related issue. I have never seen a show with one of his soundtracks after that. |

I still see it pop up every now and again for shows aimed at children. They're no longer eye catches but simple text that appears near the beginning of the episode. I couldn't tell you which network it was on though, that slipped my mind.
Those who watch fansubs probably aren't aware of it anymore since it's in the same spot/font where they announce breaking news or dvd/blu-ray announcements and the subbers are probably not translating it anymore so those who don't know japanese don't "see" it. |
