Just looking at chuck e cheese, gave me nightmares about chuck e cheese again. I really hated that place.

Instead of "You Should Be Watching", it's now "You Should Be Looking" to find more Funi history.

I never knew Chuck E. Cheese had his own live-action show before becoming a mascot of his own pizza restaurant-arcade years later. Very interesting stuff.

Here's another thing you might not know: Funimation's Gen Fukunaga does business with Rick "Frothy" Santorum as part of EchoLight Studios, a haven for low-budget religious-themed flicks.
And yet none of them have starred Vic Mignogna.

We keep pronouncing it as Funi-mation, thinking it sounds Japanese, but their name (even spelled with the capitalization) was originally FUNimation, and was in the business of trying to get cheesy syndicated afternoon buyers for Dragon Ball/Z, among other syndie kids' shows.

I actually knew about them doing Chuck E. Cheese because back in the day the only thing on the FUNimation website was that, DBZ and I think a third thing I don't feel like going to Wikipedia to figure out.
The website does run smoother now, but I get a lot of video errors, usually resulting in a few seconds of freezing and/or artifacting within the first minute of every episode no mater what PC or device I use. At least I don't have to wait a minute between pages.
I just wish there were more dubs in general on the site. I keep seeing One Piece, DBZ and Fairy Tail dubs getting passed around between free and Elite, but it's taking a long time for other shows to have their dub posted. I mean, why are there only four episodes of Toriko available out of at least 50? I know you've lost interest in, but please don't hold it back from us.
I will say things for getting Bento up ad starting on the .hack dub episodes, though I don't see why they can't just go up all at once.

I find this interesting considering Gen is CEO of a company known for their fan service titles.

Justin actually addressed this a while ago in an Answerman article. Basically, it boils down to one having practically nothing to do with the other.

Is it a good idea to run comment threads on advertorials? It dilutes the relationship between marketer and marketee.

^ How is this any different than ANN running convention reports when said conventions buy ad space on the site?
I don't particularly care for the ad articles, but I can also not read them and also choose not to buy products from said manufacturers who decide to go this route, which is what I'm more apt to do.

Advertorials.... not sure I'm comfortable with the idea of them tbh. I'm sure ANN tries to make sure there isn't a conflict of interest, but it does seem to dangerously encroach on the idea of keeping the industry and site-generated content separate. The fact that design-wise they look basically the same as other ANN content articles also comes across as potentially confusing unless you're looking at the fine details, it just seems maybe a bit intentionally misleading. I'd imagine the idea is to encourage people to click because it looks like a site article, but that can lead to the false impression that it is an actual site article (though in a sense it really is an actual site article --- it seems to dangerously blur the lines). Honestly, it just seems shady and kind of distasteful all around.

Magazines and newspapers have done Advertorials for years. And, yes, you have to check the fine print to realize that the five pages you just saw advertising vacations in sunny Guyana was in fact a paid advertisement.
It takes money to keep the site running and as was mentioned, you don't have to read them. Unlike most internet advertisement they don't jump out at you and make you mute the sound. They are basically benign.

I have not read all of the advertorials but I did enjoy all of those that I have read, including this one about Funimation.
I clicked on the link because it looked like it might be something interesting, and it was something interesting.
I do not think that they are deceptive.
The links in the sidebar are prominently labeled as "COLUMN," "REVIEW," "FEATURE" or "AD."
The first word at the top of the page, above the headline, is "Advertorial."
Below the headline is a byline saying that it is a paid advertisement.
I have not noticed anything in the advertorials that is false or misleading.
I have not seen anybody here claiming that there is any false or misleading information, at least not yet.
If any article is interesting, entertaining, informative, and truthful I really do not care if it is an advertisement.
That is my personal opinion, and I did not get paid for writing it.

I have to agree with Touma. ANN does about as much as it can to make it obvious that this is an ad, short of having blinking lights and a recording of Zac telling you that what you are about to read is an advertisement. This particular advertorial has enough awkward segues into plugs to buy things that I don't even think it could be mistaken for a typical article.
I'm not seeing this as any more of a "conflict of interest" than ANN doing weekly reviews of Naruto when there is a big ol' Shonen Jump banner ad on my screen.
