I couldn't help but comment on Hope's worst movies of 2014 list. She mentioned that she thought Annie was a movie that took something you enjoyed as a child and took a dump on it. However, I have read other critics' take on Annie who inject some interesting perspective into the analysis. Though they similarly state that the 2014 version of Annie was bad, they also note that the original Annie was awful as well, for some similar reasons and some different reasons than the new version.

^Big reason I see the original being bad is because you had John Huston directing it. He is one of the greats, but that is a really bad fit for him considering the films he did.
Am really interested in Whiplash now which I never heard until you guys brought it up,and am a big fan of J.K. Simmons who is a great character actor. |

To your point, I figured I would quote a snippet from one of the articles I read.
From: Vulture.com Bolded some of the funnier parts. And for some additional perspective, I figured why not throw in a quote from the late Roger Ebert, regarding the 1982 version - (he actually gave the movie a positive grade, but only as mindless entertainment).

I should clarify that the '80s theatrical version is terrible too. I wasn't talking about old film vs. new film. I was talking about the stage version of the musical. Which is not my favorite or anything, but there's a lot of good in it.
Both movies are pretty crappy, but the '80s version is at the very least sincere. It's just crappy because it's sorta cheap and not well-cast or directed in many ways. Also, the added songs stink. The 2014 remake has this slimy veneer coating it, from the Disneymania electric piano scoring of everything, ripping out any interesting lyrics in all the classic songs, making all the humor crappy showbiz jokes, terrible acting by people who actively look like they don't want to be in the movie...and then the movie ends with an offhand gay joke. A derogatory "lol that's gay" joke. Ending a MUSICAL. Well screw you too, movie! |

To Hope on the note of Hunter X Hunter: it's not quite as endless as you think. The manga's pretty much doomed to never be completed but the anime's 148 episodes and has a concrete enough ending that there's really no need to read more of the manga if you don't want to (and I partially suspect that may have been the plan all along when the anime reboot got announced). It's longer than YuYu Hakusho's episode count in that respect but the anime's not a never ending thing (thankfully)

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is a great movie, I actually watched my Blu-ray of it and the first one a couple weeks ago; I've seen both movies twice now.
There are a lot of scenes on it that convey great significance, but one of the scenes that I want to bring up is towards the ending spoiler[when the bomb in the building is detonated and numerous apes are trapped under the debris. It's interesting to see the differences in the characters of Caesar and Koba and their leadership with their actions. Caesar helps pull other apes out while Koba; and this is brilliant how it's executed; lifts a mass off of an ape, grabs the gun, then places the mass back on the ape; it can be interpreted to his tyranny the way he prioritizes weaponry over the well being of the people he's supposed to support.] Obviously there are many powerful scenes prior to this that set Koba up as a tyrant, not to mention a paranoid war monger, I could sit here and rave all day about how great Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is, but it wouldn't be anything new for those who have already seen it, and those who have not; go check it out when you get the chance. Oh, and I picked up the cool steel book version when it came out on Blu-ray, front and back: |

You give the time stamp for various parts of the Podcast and you even recommend moving forward if one is not interested in the part about non anime movies. However the on site player no longer has a progress bar or any way I could find to determine where I was or to move forward or back. All it has is a start/pause button and a volume control that doesn't seem to work. It is possible that one of the other ways to access the podcast has the necessary controls, but I've never used them and see no reason why it should be necessary to leave the site to enjoy the podcast.
In this case the change is not for the better. I had to give up half way through as I am not interested in the non anime stuff and had no way to avoid it. |

Hm, what browser are you on? We just switched to a new html5-friendly player, that could be causing some issue for you. It shows up as having a progress bar with a slider on my end, but it could be something happening with your specific setup. |

In my case, I'm on chrome/windows 7 and the HTML5 player randomly stops when I'm browsing things in other windows. Happened twice before I gave up and just downloaded the file and played it with Media Player. |

Same problem for me and same set up Chrome and Windows 7 it kept crashing and would have to refresh to start the pod cast again. Got through 10 minutes at most and after 4-5 tries I'll download the MP3 version so I can finally listen to it.
Sorry to say never had this problem with the old set up. Could do everything as it use to be, didn't have any problems with the current time index bar back or forth if I wanted to skip to a particular segment. But I like to listen while browsing other sites and couldn't do it with the new player. |

Where it says direct-download the MP3 version here, just right click and save, play it in virtually any video or music player like you would any other mp3. Even before this, it's always been easier to just do that than use the audio stream.

Sorry to say that I've been having similar problems with the new on-page player as everyone else who's posted. On a Windows 8 / Chrome browser setup and it kept freezing at around the 5 minute mark for the two times I refreshed the page. However, time cursor showed up in each of those attempts. I ended up downloading this episode off of iTunes and listened to it that way.
However, on the topic of that time cursor bar, I've listened to other podcasts using a similar player and having the bar appear for me would be a roll of the dice each time. I'm not sure if that's how it is across the board, but that's been my experience. |

This morning it finally occurred to me to try a different browser. I opened Chrome, which I don't normally use and found that it has the additional slider for location. I haven't had a chance to see if it actually works though.
That a different browser could break the player I understand. The idea that it could work and provide different functionality I find a bit odd. |
