I never really understood this fictional birthday thing. Where did it start and why is this a requirement in like every manga/anime.

I'm not really sure why it's so prevalent but I guess it's just giving the fans more information about the characters. I know it's lame but I always feel a bit excited when a character I like has the same birthday as me. Razz

Sometimes it could be that there are people who celebrate that are also people who are somewhat detached from reality and thus will treat the birthday person as if they were real.
