Originaly, before Funimation had the rights to Sgt. Frog, ADV Films had it. ADV pitched a pilot to Nickelodeon in 2007, who said they would pick up the show if ADV could secure merchandising rights. However, ADV's license to Sgt. Frog was transfered to Funimation before the pitch was complete. It's a shame too, because it could be a lot more popular than it is now if it was on mainstream TV. I can definitely see it as having a sort of universal appeal like early SpongeBob or Animaniacs. Kids would laugh at the zany antics of the Keroro Platoon, and older viewers and anime fans would enjoy the self-awareness and rapid fire pop-culture/anime references. It's sad it never got the TV exposure it deserved though.
