Boys Over Flowers (Hana Yori Dango / Hana Dan)
animenewsnetwork.com/buried-treasure/2009-08-13/boys-over-flowers-hana-yori-dango animenewsnetwork.com/shelf-life/2004-01-11 So I was checking out the reviews for Peach Girl because my local library actually has it. One of the reviews unfavorably compared it with Hana Dan so I immediately looked it up. Justin Sevakis had reservations, while Bamboo Dong loved it. As for me, myself; I am 9 episodes into it and I have no idea if it will get any better relatively soon. At 51 episodes, I do not want to run the risk of wasting that much time. It just seems that the series (9 episodes in, anyway) is about the protagonist being in snobby/social situations that she is uncomfortable in. So, what is there to like/dislike about Hana Dan? What about the movie? |

I enjoyed the interactions the main protagonist had with the elite snobby rich lads. I guess I found it interesting. But what does make it worth the watch is the slow change over time in the spoiler[ attitudes of the rich snobs, well a couple of them anyhow ] It has been a long time since I have seen the series, but it did have the benefit of being only the second reverse harem series I had seen (Fushi Yugi being the first) and to me it seemed a breath of fresh air to a half dozen harem titles I had been watching.
at 51 eps, it does take time to develop. I cannot say your going to see this massive turn-around in how it progresses, but it does get better. Now, take this with some knowledge that my recollections on an older series can sometimes be tainted by nostalgia. |
