I actually find this show kinda interesting, at least in terms of premise and execution anyways with above average OST. The vague commercials didn't really reveal much until the second half of the first episode. Not a blockbuster of this season but definitely something to keep an eye on imo.

Indeed, it's great to have a disabled character in the main cast who is portrayed as more than just a victim or a source of motivation. It makes for a fresh set of conflicts to explore. I just hope they do take advantage of it.
On the other hand, I have to question the show's choice in introducing an entirely new member of the team just in its third episode. While transfer students aren't exactly rare in anime, the lack of foreshadowing and her abrupt entrance throws a wrench into the character dynamic that was established in the first two episodes.
In any case, this shows that the story won't hesitate to lay on the surprises, so I'm looking forward to whatever more this has in store.

Quote: | She becomes, in effect, anime's first paraplegic magical girl, and seeing how that works and the immediate impact she has on turning what was until that point a desperate fight is a very, very special moment, not just for this season but for anime history in general. |
When Theron says this, well then the show is now on my "Must See" list.

I'm kind of surprised you liked this anime so much, mainly because I thought it was kind of bland and unremarkable. I'll probably give it a few more episodes, but nothing has really grabbed my attention so far.
Also, I never thought of Mimori's disability as groundbreaking for whatever reason. I don't know; she just came off as a normal person to me. Maybe that is groundbreaking for a disabled character to be like that? It never crossed my mind, though.

It's groundbreaking that they played it right. I was expecting 2 things: magical healing or angst, this was a nice surprise.
The premise of this anime may be uninteresting at first, but it truly has no flaws, aside of overused tropes. The opening has this ominous vibe...

I only started watching this show because I read a gushing blurb about how her disability was handled. I think there's three main things to it:
- As you said, she's mostly treated the same as everyone else. Her wheelchair-boundness isn't really a focus or source of moe-fuel. That in itself is pretty unusual.
- But it's not completely ignored. Much of the first two episodes revolves around her angst and frustration over not being able to fight.
- Bit of a spoiler-- her disability is not cured when she transforms. Instead, she gets a unique magic outfit that carries her around, and she immediately proves that she can fight just as well as everyone else (if not better!), though in a different way. That's the important part, because it shows that her disability doesn't make her weak or irrelevant.
I'm not sure yet if this is the best show this season, but it already seems like the most interesting one. Now that we're seemingly at the end of the character introductions phase, I can't wait to see where they take this.

Dropped at episode 2. Typical plot, UNINTERESTING characters, boring pacing.
At the end of each episode, they didn't try to encourage me to keep up with it.

This show is one of my most anticipated 2014 fall shows, mainly because it's a magical girls show.
Though I was somewhat in doubt since in some news I didn't see any mentioning it being a magical girls anime.
Impression after watching eps 1-2, I'm personally a bit disappointed since I strongly feel the vibe that it's a moe male otaku-oriented anime. I was kind of expecting a shoujo magical girls like Cardcaptor Sakura or Sailormoon. And particularly disappointed by the too sexy costume. But I guess it's inevitable these days, so.. I think I was just too confident in setting the wrong expectation.
At least I'm really happy with the surreal and colorful setting of that other world, so pleasing to the eyes.
I hope it won't go the Madoka Magica depressing route, and instead just go with the traditional magical girls happy route. I might just missed this kind of magical girls shows so much.

Expand on this a bit more. What exactly is about the pacing of these three episodes that made it boring for you? I certainly don't disagree with you on the plot and characters as the archetypes are all in full force, though I am happy to see the brawler magical girl as the lead.

Yeah... the random lingering boobshot in Togo's transformation was a little much. Still, there wasn't much of anything besides that, so it's still many levels above, say, Vividred "Buttshots Galore" Operation. Not even any heavily-implied arbitrary yuri pairings. It has a high enough ratio of content to fanservice that it doesn't really bother me.

Ah ha, the show that aired too late for the preview guide!
I agree with the post above. The fanservice elements are present and poorly handled (not integrated well into the proceedings) but aren't overwhelming. That alone is not enough to put me off the show.
However, I too found the pacing clunky. The first ten minutes of episode 1 are utterly boring. There's no tension or any reason to believe anything unusual is going to happen. Without that tension in the everyday scenes, it's hard to care as much about the shocking revelations--which, by the way, aren't explained well even after episode 2.
The combat and methods to kill the Vertex also feel very video-gamey to me (the numbers are counting down our remaining power!), and not particularly original.
It's not bad, but it doesn't hold my interest and the lack of tension means the show doesn't instill any desire to see what's going to happen next. It doesn't convince me it has anything unique to offer. This show will probably be a "wait and see if everyone starts talking about it" show, but right now I personally don't see a reason to keep watching.
Also, and this is purely shallow, I find the character's voices really grating.

The aspect of the show involving Togo being paraplegic and yet being a very adept and effective magical girl is groundbreaking in some important ways. That is a delight.
However, the fan-service is just too heavy to allow this show to be a truly groundbreaking show. This is one of those shows where someone came up with a really fantastic idea, and then the impulse to pander heavily to the male otaku audience just drags it down into the mud.
Aside from the other schlocky aspects of the girls' sexy outfits and battle scenes, Togo's transformation scene is almost like someone took a massive fan-service hammer to whatever idea of moe cuteness she is supposed to represent, and just smashed that baby to bits. Her TF is basically: tentacles appear from somewhere, grab her and spread her apart while we watch her in a suggestive position. Then something squishes over her boobs and like jut them out of the screen. Then - sexy outfit. I mean, yes I am sure it is very titilating and everything, but that kind of thing will prevent this show from achieving any kind of heights we might otherwise bestow upon it. At the end of the day, I think this is essentially going to just be another Strike Witches/Vividred, with a little bit of a twist with the wheelchair-bound girl playing a major role.
That's not to say it's awful. Those two shows did fairly well, and this will almost certainly appeal strongly to that same otaku audience. But I seriously doubt it will have much appeal beyond that.

The setup for the next episode is interesting; six vertices at once. Since there will be only one left, the story will probably move to the reason of their attack afterwards. Also, all that death flag dropping throughout this episode. Unless we're being trolled to the max, the older sister is so dead next episode.
