On Oct. 19th, Jake J. Brahm threatened to bomb NFL stadiums on the popular anime image board 4chan. Some idiots took the /b/tard seriously, and this guy has gotten himself into some serious legal doo-doo.

News clip

There's a new thread on /b/ popping up every other second concerning this. Do you think this is going to have any impact on the public's perception of anime fans if people watching this news clip at home decided to Google 4chan and see what the site was like for themselves?

This is like the bus/train thing from 2CH all of those years ago. How odd.

HAHA!!! hahaha OOOOOOOOmegod thats pretty funny.

I dont think it will have all that much to change on the public's perspective on anime fans nor do i think many people will actually search for 4chan to see what kind of sight this crazy man was on when he posted such a devious threat or anything like that, i think we're good to go...................like a crunch wrap supreme.

That's not exactly accurate, most of the people on 4chan are rather intelligent, they just intentionally act like idiots to be funny. Of course there are idiots too, like this guy (and the people who took it seriously), that pop up every now and then though... Now, Gaia Online... that is a den of "retardation"

Um, I wasn't aware this was some kind of contest. To tell you the truth, I haven't been on 4chan in a while...

From what I've heard, it was a contest to see who could come up with the scariest scenario, or something.

Well, he won. Anime hyper

Personally, the guy was being an idiot. A really, really, really big idiot. He deserves five years in jail just for being stupid. xD It's like shouting "fire!" in a crowded theater, or making a bomb joke in an airport. It's just common sense not to do it.

That being said, I've seen the 'threat", and it's kinda obvious to me after you get about halfway through it that it's a joking "what if?" scenario. I mean, the fact that it then plans out who will take the blame, then insists that the US will go into Civil War...you can't really PLAN something like that. Unless you happen to have a crystal ball around.

I just hope this doesn't cause another round of "let's bash the anime fans!"

Too late.

This knucklehead behavior may not come as a surprise to anyone familiar with Brahm's other online activity via MySpace and an ambitious blog on which he recorded all of his 2006 masturbatory activity. In his most recent MySpace blog entry, Brahm, an avowed Japanese pornography enthusiast, mentioned Iran's president: "I admire Mahmoud Ahmadinejad," he wrote.

well its not really common sense to me since a few years ago, in my tenth grade class, someone started a fire and it spread quickly and we had to evacuate, well i had a laser pointer at the time and i was just carying it around but i heard a few girls saying its a terrorist attack, i thought that was funny SO i pulled out my pointer of the laser and pointed it at them and started yelling "SNIPER ON THE ROOF!!" man the girls hit the ground harder and faster than Inuyasha after being told to sit, and they were crying so hard and screaming..................i thought THAT was funny. and right before that i was playing the Fire hose that thefiremen brought.

4chan doesn't do contests. It was likely more along the lines of someone posting a thread that started with:

"ITT SCARY FAKE TERRORIST THREATS! GO!"

Probably got stickied, too, otherwise it probably wouldn't have been caught. A regular thread on /b/ cycles out within 30 minutes due to how busy that place gets.

Personally, I'm kinda on the fence with this one. I like going to 4chan because I have a just twisted enough sense of humor to find /b/ (and /a/, /m/, etc.) funny & entertaining. On the other hand, I don't always agree with everything they do, case in point making scary, realistic mock terrorist threats. On the other, other hand, the people who took a comedy mockery gag website seriously are pretty moronic in their own right. On the other, other, other hand, this guy did try to make his threat as threatening and plausible as possible.

So yeah. Points and counterpoints cancel each other out. Though at least we got a new meme out of it.

DON'T MESS WITH FOOTBALL.

AMEN. I can't believe all the bad news I keep hearing somehow has a link back to Anime in some sort of way or other. Remember when they caught that Sex offender and he had that huge stack of Doujinshi and other hentai related material on his computer.....and I wonder why anime has such a bad name.

Oh, I guess that would make more sense... that's probably what it was...

I always love new memes... especially when they're ones as funny as this one is. Although, I didn't really like the guy who said it... he made it sound like football was so superior... it's not that you "don't mess with football" but rather you don't make stupid threats on the internet... but I guess this is why it became popular...

Also, I'm wondering if this has enough connection to anime to make it on the front page of ANN... I mean, 4chan has multiple anime related image boards and anime's pretty popular there... I guess it probably will be. I just wasn't sure if it had enough of a connection.

Um, that article says nothing about anime. It just says "Japanese pornography." It doesn't mention Japanese animation anywhere. Most people will just think he prefers naked Asians over naked Americans. Nothing negative against anime.

OH MY GOD. Yeah, this dumbass deserves to be in jail. After 9/11, the July 7, 2005 train bombings in Madrid, the recently foiled plot to blow up US-bound airplanes from the UK and Cory Lidle's plane crash on October 11, how anyone could joke about blowing up buildings is beyond me. I don't care if Brahm was kidding, he's a total idiot. I bet someone will send that message to al-Qaeda and they'll start planning attacks on NFL stadiums, killing more innocent Americans like they did five years ago. Just what America needs, more terrorism.

Yeah, and it lists that his interests include foreign films, but doesn't ever specifically mention anime. Even though this idiot's joke is in bad taste, I think people are stupid for over-reacting to it. I mean, anyone with half a brain can figure out that it's a joke. Come on, if he was in the least bit serious about it, why would he post his secret plans on a public forum for all the world to see? Doesn't that even suggest to people even just a little bit that it could be just a really bad joke? I wonder what would've happened if this guy had used 4Kids instead of football stadiums in his joke....but then again, I better not speculate about it. I might get arrested just for speculating.
