Eh I expected this series to get hate on here as the reviewer quite clearly hates fan service so yeah these reviews are gonna basically be pointless. I mean gross fetishes? For real? Why are you watching this series?
Quote: | he character designs are similarly forgettable, although the color palette is alright. |
Eh? Did you not see Momos Fusion Possessions? They were fab and very well designed.
This series is no nonsense fun, story is pretty interesting, fan service is plentiful and varied (good thing!), it's very funny (sacrifice fetish!), it doesn't try anything particularly new but fan service shows don't necessarily need to, they just need to be fun which this is. The reviewer is clearly the exact opposite of the target audience (i.e. people like me).

"Gross fetishes" is still rather meaningless, given the fandom. Are we talking tentacles, lolification, humiliation or what? The tenor of the review suggests it's not guro or mindbreak, so we're really talking some subjective territory.

It is the usual "demographic pandering" shows that pops up every batch of releases, if you aren't part of that demographic then you will find it tastes like "offensive bile" otherwise Momo Kyun is an average series with the usual "fantasy romp" featuring the casts oversized chests.
I wouldn't recommend it for people to watch, but I couldn't say it is a substantially BAD show (unless you have a complete allergic reaction to anime's rendition of breasts)
(of course, being an "average series" is usually a bigger sin than being an offensively bad series in the effort of trying to promote a series for "uniqueness")

It is unfortunate when a show is assigned a reviewer who cannot get past his/her own prejudices.
To complain about the existence of fan service in a fan service show is just silly. To rail against perceived "vulgarity" and "gross fetishes" in such a show is frankly bizarre.
Choosing a prude to review a fan service show is as inadvisable as would be assigning a homophobe to review a show like "Love Stage!!".
I can easily imagine the (well justified) uproar if a review of "Love Stage!!" criticized it for containing gay characters.
There is nothing wrong with the reviewer identifying a show as fan service show, especially for the benefit of those readers who have no interest in fan service shows. There is also nothing wrong with critiquing other aspects of a fan service show, but to criticize it because it actually contains fan service is ridiculous.

they certainly aren't in any hurry to find the peach fragments. short attention spans to whats actually important and the endless hot springs in the country stall what little plot the show had to begin with

I can assure you that they are gathering fragments faster than Inuyasha and co. Besides, when the only reason given is "so that they do not have them first" gives little sense of any hurry. Tbt it is more important to stop any evil ogres they see and they have been doing that quite well (better than Inuyasha and co, who would take several frigging episodes to stop the equivalent low-level or mid-level boss).

That still does not explain the boobies/booties=vulgar equiation, unless the writer approves of the punishment the FCC gave cbs for the janet jackson famous wardrobe malfuntion.

Probably because it is a blatant narrative Mcguffin that feels just as tacked on as it would be in most other given series.

Oh dear, that poor girl got sunburned on her way to sue her plastic surgeon! Well, that's what she gets for putting all of that baby oil on them.

The grossness being called out in this review is not just "the girls show skin." It's "sexual assault by tentacles" and other elements of nonconsensual voyeurism.
Criticism of these elements is not "prudish," it's "disapproval of portraying women as violatable sex objects," and it's a valid criticism, not a bias.

It looks like her breasts are developing an extra pair of nipples on top.

I didn't find the fanservice in this show appealing and I'm very receptive to fanservice. I'm pretty generous with tolerating dumb comedy, but this show was just too dumb and boring even for me. I made it to half-way through episode 6 when it occurred to me that I had zero interest or reason to continue.
From the review of eps 1-8:
Quote: | Yes, Momo Kyun Sword is yet another entry in the genre of nude female fighting that includes Ikki Tousen and Master of Martial Hearts. While not as loathsome as those two examples... |
I wasn't a fan of MoMH, either, but the first season of Ikki Tousen will always hold a special place in my stony, dark heart.

Oh my. I never realized that a fan service anime might contain scenes of male characters sneaking looks at not-fully-clothed female characters, or those characters might even be grabbed by tentacles.
Seriously, I don't think there is a single fan service anime that doesn't contain peeping (either accidental or intentional). Tentacle scenes while not as common, are not all that rare either. Even "Bleach" had a beach/tentacle episode (ep 228).
When you get down to it, fan service is objectification of the bodies of drawn/animated characters. To criticize a fan service anime for that objectification, is essentially to criticize it for existing at all.
Also, have you ever happened to check out the anime called "Free"? It isn't just female characters who are objectified for viewers. As for non-consensual touching, it exists in BL as well.
Other really bad things happen in anime. In "Tokyo Ghoul", characters kill and eat people, and there is, not surprisingly, a lot of blood and gore.
Killing is obviously wrong, and eating people is, in virtually all cultures considered to be a heinous crime. Additionally, many people do not like gore. Promoting killing and cannibalism is obviously not good, so should we criticize "Tokyo Ghoul" for portraying those things? Should someone feel guilty for enjoying watching it?
Or, do we realize that "Tokyo Ghoul" is a horror/suspense anime and understand that killing, blood, gore and even people being eaten are common features of that genre. Just as the objectification of male and female characters' bodies is an essential element of fan service anime.
Also, if you are going to cry foul over the the objectification of drawn/animated characters, you might want to start taking issue with businesses that actually objectify real men and women.
Just to start, there's the Hooters restaurant chain, the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, Firemen calendars, the Fashion Industry, and believe it or not, right here in the USA, they make pornography using real men and women!

As I've said it once, I'll say it again. Why is ANN people trying so hard to pull out all these reviews for? Do they REALLY have to do this? I mean come on, you're not even in the targeted group so why even bother watching the anime in the first place? If you're not into trains, DON'T watch Rail Wars. If you're not into fanservices and shows that have tentacles for the sake of pleasuring weird otakus, DON'T force yourself to continue on to finish the show. You don't have to force yourself to watch a show you're not even interested in in the first place to give up bs reviews. I think reviews are great once in a while, but when you're not a bit interested and invested in the show in the first place, of course you won't be able to enjoy it. The again, after reading all the bad graded reviews, I have yet to see any "positive" about those shows at all. The reviews are just exploiting all the bad points and no good points whatsoever. Or maybe I'm just missing out the good points that were mentioned in the reviews.

Another pointless review made by ANN fan-service haters, pathetic, stupid and delusional.
There ever will be a day where someone into harem and fan service shows will made a honest review?
Or maybe the whole point is just insulting the community as always they do with anime season previews?
Harems are principally made for male audience and their pleasure, so yes they 100% contain ecchi for this only purpose, nothing bad here is just a genre, if you aren't into this is useless try to make a review, this behaviour is beyond any logic.
Quote: | If this is the start of a trend towards better writing and characters and away from gross fanservice, nothing could make me happier. |
Ohhh poor boy, you feel better now? We need more hate and insulting. -_-
