The CE looks alright, not as good as the Japanese BD volumes - not even close.

I thought that was pretty bad. Still a good show and I'll watch the dub but JP was much better especially in that scene. They don't convey the same emotion in the dub.. I prefer dubbed over subbed these days so that's not why I think it's mediocre.

I'm kinda pissed at myself for waiting so long to watch AoT now since I ended up liking the sub better anyway (watched the first half dub, second half sub.)
The squads emotions didn't feel quite right, but it's difficult to explain why.
Hange is one of my favorite characters, but I don't really feel like this does her justice. In the original she always sounds a little bit crazy, but she just came across as silly here.

I really don't understand the hate this dub gets. Sure, it has problems, but it's not straight up bad, and this is coming from a person who has definitely heard her share of bad dubs. Examples: Garzey's Wing and Bible Black.

Over all the dub was decent in the first half. Mixed bag really, many characters did a good job but some didn't fit. I actually turned out better overall than I thought just by watching clips previously. Maybe I'll feel the same after watching the second half.

September 23? I had hoped a late August release before the young ones go back to school.

Man the animators must've been dead tired and up agianst a deadline when they animated that scene. Forgot how sloppy the drawing, perspective, and story-boarding was for that part.

Agreed Knight-Hart.
Looking forward to re-watching tonight's ep in dubbed form and getting this second set.

Coming from someone whose seen a plethora of subbed and dubbed titles--sometimes both of the same series--I can say this is one I'm happy with, for sure.
One thing I think some AoT fans forget is how silly it can be. The ALWAYS SERIOUS ALL THE TIME dialogue can carry an undeniable hammy quality to it, and can therefore be unintentionally hilarious.
I was the most (happily) surprised by Levi's and Zoe's VAs. Bring on the BD box set.

Honestly, the dub was okay in my opinion. It was just not the best Funimation has come out with. Some of the casting was good but not so much the others. But overall, the dub wasn't absolutely horrible to watch.
On a completely different note, has anyone here listned to the Attack on Space audioplay? I love it!

I'm not an AoT fan ( I liked the series but that was it) but I think that the comedy is intentional. Most of the jokes delivered in AoT are done in a super-serious tone which makes them more comic, it feels more like part of the style rather than something which is unintentional. After all anyone can understand that you need comedy to balance out seriousness, in AoT the serious tone of the series is what makes some sections comic, rather than the series becoming light-hearted at certain times.

Maybe it's because I hadn't watched this ep in a year but I thought the elite squad sounded more aggressive here, which I think is good since they were supposed to be very suspicious. Hanji sounded a little like a kid in a candy store than a mad scientist, but she did make me laugh so at least it gave me a positive reaction. I've completely given up on trying to compare this to the sub. It makes it more enjoyable that way.
