One of the few Blu Rays I will be importing this year. I just simply cannot wait for Disney to release Mononoke hime in 12+ months.
Well worth the $20 shipping charge and $70 Blu Ray. |

I know everybody else will express excitement of the one obvious title, so here's my excitement for the other--Cat Returns is getting a Blu-ray? A truly charming and underrated Ghibli gem, I sure hope Disney brings us that in the near future.

I wonder if the dubtitle issue with the Cat Returns will be addressed.

Is this the first time that Disney is releasing Mononoke in Japan? I could of sword they did. But maybe it was Nausica and someone asked for it here. That was a few years ago. Well I hope that we get a decent release of Mononoke on BD combo. Because the first release was crap. Didn't really offer much extras like the later releases.

Does this just leave Spirited Away to be released, or are there other titles (don't recall anything about Ocean Waves)?

They seem to be releasing these on Blu-ray in seemingly random order. Has Kiki's Delivery Service even been released?

Kiki was released about last year with Only Yesterday. If I remember right, I think the only ones without Blu-ray (in Japan) are Spirited Away and Ocean Waves (oh, and 'The Wind Rises') with Pom Poko and Porco Rosso coming out in November |

IIRC, the previous Mononoke Hime DVD release in Japan was under Studio Ghibli's banner, and not Disney's. Whether we get a decent BD combo release of Mononoke over here depends on whether it will be Miramax (the original company owned by Disney that released it, due to the more violent nature of the film) or Buena Vista (Disney's main company for Ghibli output) that gets the home release this time around. Hopefully Disney will want to cash in on the Ghibli name and give it a good release, and not leave it hanging with Miramax. On another note, do we have ANY more Ghibli films in the lineup waiting to be released outside of Spirited Away? Or can I assume that will be the next announcement? *crosses fingers, mutters ohgodIwantthatreleasesobadwithawesomepqandaudioqualitygahhhh* |

I wouldn't worry about The Cat Returns. I've heard it did well for them on DVD and it's the most "Disney-like" title Ghibli's ever made. It even has Anne Hathaway as the star, who's more relevant now than when she first voiced this. It's a shoe in for a BD release in the U.S. as soon as Disney can do it. |

As I've mentioned before, I don't own a BD player. After all of these releases, however, I'm starting to seriously wonder if I should invest in one though. It goes against how I feel about unnecessary purchases, but then again Princess Mononoke and the Cat Returns is on the table...

Dude, we probably have some BD player stashed somewhere we don't even use anymore. If we can even find it, it's all yours. |
