I agree completely with the poll.
Casting always throws me off. They look nothing like the characters. Yes, I know, anime and manga are different but get the hair color, the hair styles and the uniforms right, at least. |

Personally I'd swap 1 and 2. 2 is a far bigger pet peeve of mine than 1. Then again, they're all terrible aspects in their own rights.

Faithfulness to the original work is not an inarguable virtue. An adaptation that changes the original and makes the changes works can be a great thing. Not live action, but I really like the Fist of the North Star and Space Adventure Cobra movie adaptations for the exact reason that they're different spins on the source material.

Well, the '07 Transformers movie was a box office success. Another thing to look at on whether or not a live action adaptation looks like it will be a box office success.

I rarely complain about casting, since most of the complaints about it I see are pretty lame, like the generic "the human does not look like the drawing" one, others seem to put emphasis on characters not being atractive/muscular/big boobs enough; with my years of watching drama shows I just assume that anime/manga characters are average looking unless stated otherwise, that way most of the problems with casting dissapear.

Let's go with, "Trying to emulate anime hair in real life," and "The movies look like they were shot on a camcorder with flat sitcom lighting." It's really hard to believe that live-action anime/manga adaptations come from the same country as Ozu and Kurosawa.

Well, Japan's excuse is their budgets in general are crap. As for Transformers, that show gets rebooted with each iteration, so...

I'd have chosen "bad acting," since the few adaptations I've watched have been of comedies. Japanese comic actors mug for the camera much too often for my taste. I grew tired of Ueno Juri as Nodame for this reason.
Of the adaptations I've watched, I thought Bartender was perhaps the best, though the live-action version romanticized the relationship between Ryuu and Miwa. |

I loved Dragon Ball Evolution! I also loved the bottle of Crown Royal my friend and I split before going into the theater ;p
The "appearance of a nonexistent character" thing doesn't bug me much. I prefer differences like that when viewing adaptations. I don't want to see the same thing I read acted out/animated frame for frame. |

for me personally it's bad writing if the story is bad then no matter how good a director or cast you have the film will fail so the answer is you have to get a good solid story

Bayformers actually has some top-notch special effects, the problem is that the camera and direction don't allow you to appreciate any of it. In general, most of the live action adaptations just suffer from completely horrendous scripts that suck out all of the life and unique qualities of the original property. Faithfulness in that regard isn't following absolute narratives, but more "adhering to the original spirit." That's the difference between a Man of Steel and Avengers. But that's an issue that tends to only come up in single films, if you're just discussing live action manga adaptation television series, it's probably just bad acting and super bad CGI. For a live action movie adaptation of a manga that I actually quite liked (not having read the manga):
Ore wa Mada Honki Dashitenai Dake / I'll give it my all... tomorrow / 俺はまだ本気出してないだけ 通常版 (2013) Believable characters and situations and the actors weren't hamming things up for the cameras. |
