The article is worded a little wonkily (word!). The Pokemon movies are released straight-to-DVD in North America and elsewhere, but this is not the case in Japan, where they often reach #1 at the box office.

Which makes me wonder why Answerman didn't include Pokemon as one of the major franchises in Japan in his last column.The Pokemon movies put on a solid performance every year,and they've been a heck of a lot more succesful than the recent Naruto movies.The anime series itself will reach it's 10th anniversary next year around April I believe.
As for the video games,Diamond and Pearl were released on Thursday in Japan and 2 million copies were sold in nearly 2 days.During D/P's release,500,000 DS Lite's were sold as well. |
