I was already planning on watching this, and now I feel more confident about doing so. I'm not bothered by CG so that isn't an issue.

This was a great adaption, they changed a few things from the manga but still had parts with just as much impact. I personally was fine with the cgi, I thought there were parts that were a bit stiff every now and again but that or parts with bad animation (or both) basically happens with everything at some point. Kei, Satou and the music were excellent.

I thought it was very good. The production didn't bother me at all. The detailed shadowing reminded me of the way Gunslinger Girl looks.

One thing I never see pointed out is the sound-design which is fantastic(particular on the black ghosts). I didn't the CGI for the most part and as mentioned they really get the body language; It does like terrible in scenes where they had to render crowds where it looks like shit. What makes the series for the cast of morally ambiguous characters. Kei is a great change of pace from the usual main character, with all his actions being just for his own self-interest;then Satou who is kinda similar to Magneto in which both have similar goals and you don't agree with their actions, but totally understand their reasons for them.

Unfortunately, the series is actually just a slightly extended cut of the Ajin movies. The first half covers the first movie with a few altered or extended scenes, and the second half goes up to what I can only imagine from trailers is the midpoint of the second movie, which will probably greatly reduce the length of Kei's stay in the burbs to get back into the action.
I was also pretty disappointed that Kaito didn't have more screentime, considering he shares top billing with Kei. Instead he just sort of disappears, though the trailer for the second movie isn't shy about announcing his return. Coming soon to a theater near you!

Kei's behavior bothered me too much to the point of not being able to give a 1/3 of a half eaten shit about him.
He's the type of person that wouldn't give you a F*ck to save your life unless he got something out of it.

When i first started reading the manga on CR, i'd hoped for it to take a more psychological direction. But it became clear early on that this would primarily be an action series when we found out the Ajin aren't merely immortal but also have "superpowers".
It did turn into a pretty good action series at least which to a large extent is due to Satou being an awesome villain. I may not always agree with his actions, but i still can't help but root for him, he's just too much fun to watch! The "other side" lacks similarly interesting characters, unfortuantely.
As for the anime adaption, once i got over my initial aversion to the CG, i enjoyed it quite a bit and am looking forward to more.

I really enjoyed this series.
Really, the only thing I need at this point is a sequel. I can't quite give it a higher rating without one, because it really did not feel like a satisfying stopping point for me.

I have the impression that a second season was planned from the start, but I wonder if the upcoming OVA and 2 movies will be the sequel.
I also liked the Ajin tv series for the most part, but, like you, because of the ending I can only give it a Decent rating.

The second movie is just going to be the last half of the show with the third one being new material.Am sure they'll wait bit so they have more material to adapt.

I have yet to finish it, but I've been very entertained by this show. I particularly liked its OST during fighting scenes and during the brief recap at the beginning of the episode. Character animation was on point as well, as it was very detailed when it wanted to. I had some problems with the low framerate feel the show has. I don't know if this was a problem with Sidonia as well, though.
I also expected this show to have some brains. At the beginning it kind of remind me of Tokyo Ghoul is trying to cope with his new powers and problems. But once Kei understood his powers as an Ajin, the show quickly turned into a bad vs not so good anime. Kei himself isn't that likeable once his real personality appeared. Turning him into someone who almost doesn't give a shit about anything wasn't, IMO, a good decision. The world in Ajin is full of bad people, and turning the hero in another one of them makes it more difficult for me to care.

personally i think i found out about this manga at the worst possible time, which was right after Tokyo Ghoul's first manga series ended so i was ecstatic when i started this because it was so familiar there was even a capture and get tortured scene but at that point it was clear that Kei is no Kaneki and i strongly disliked his sociopathic mentality.
Simply put I hated the main character and the side characters while great especially kei's childhood friend they just didn't have enough impact for me to really enjoy it. Also don't get me started with Tosaka he's probably the guy i hate the second most, it'd sit better with me if he was aware of what an @sshole he was but he feels he's justified cause the ajin's are (biologically speaking)aberrations.
I do intend to finish the series, i just hope the author does something with these characters that i like.

Quote: | Ajin is decapitated and the head immediately carried away, as what grows back to replace the head might not reform the Ajin's consciousness and soul. Would that be a different person? Would it be a zombie? Or would the soul transfer? It's an interesting philosophical and physiological question. |
Haven't watched the show, but wouldn't the body part always grow back from whatever is attached to the head and you'd never get into this problem?

I don't think so. As immortal as Akin are, they aren't aliens that can grow parts from anywhere. Besides, it'll be more interesting to have some physical flaws for them, too.

Watching the first episode right now. I just hate the art direction. To me it looks horrible.
