Considering how much of a stranglehold that Nintendo has on the portable gaming market, this is extremely impressive.

I don't think it's necessarily a case of the Vita selling more than the 3DS. It's most likely a situation where Nintendo's portable sales are no longer negating its slow console sales enough to maintain its top spot. |

Yeah it's more like Nintendo dropped more than Sony did.

Exactly, but the gap between the portable sales of the Vita and 3DS is so enormous (more than 10 million units in 2013) it shows how much Sony had to make up in the home console sales.

The PS4 is the new console to have, of course there is going to be a large spike in their sales.

Yo, PS4 sales is over 7 million by the end of May now. They're close to 8 million.

I hardly think that's really the case. I think it has far more to do with the fact most people that want gaming systems already have a DS/3DS/PSV or PS3/360/Wii and new consoles like PS4 and XBO of course are too high of a price for most gamers to make up for lack of "new" customers on the previous gen. |

The price that video games and their consoles often are (even if the games have DLC) could also be a factor.

The PS4 has already reached over 8 millions units sold. The Wii U isn't far behind with roughly 6.3 millions units. But the XB1, jeez Microsoft really need to hit one out the park next week at E3 because they are so behind it's not funny. (4.5 million units) However, when you consider the fact it hasn't sold in no where near as many countries as the PS4 has, that's actually quite a good number. |

The Wii U also has 12 more months of sales compared to PS4 and Xbox One. So it's really not in a good position right now.

Yet I would still rather have a wii-u over a ps4 and xbox-one. This is coming from a long time sony fan since the 3rd gen of console's. I really don't see a need for the ps4 and there is still no killer must have game for the vita yet. |

I dunno why people keep putting the Wii U in the same category as PS4 and Xbone. It's clearly not trying to compete with the same market as them and is doing it's own thing.
Same, brah. Still waitin' to pick one up myself. Ground Zeroes/MGS will be nice but waitin' for some next gen RPGs from Square or NamcoBandai or NIS. Wii U has over a dozen games and more coming out soon so it's the only newer console I have so far. |

Nonetheless, the Xbox One is selling at a faster clip than the 360 did after its launch: http://www.wpcentral.com/xbox-one-sales-numbers-february-2014 That total number of consoles sold for the Wii U doesn't look that good when one considers it was introduced a year before the PS4 and Xbox One. |
