I dont remember if Akashi ever appered on the 1st season.
But i think he got 1st place because he's voiced by Hiroshi Kamiya.

he appeared in a flashback and at the end of the season (in one of those imgs previewing the WC), and also in the first OVA if I remember well that may had helped to raise his popularity but I don't think that's the "absolute" reason for such an overwhelming victory it's thanks to the manga I would say |

Seriously what is wrong with Japan. I know I keep repeating myself, but goddamnit, Akashi destroying everyone else? That bastard is so full of BS. I can't wait for him to get run over by a bus or something like that. I wish any of these 6000 crazy girls would explain at least three things that make Akashi a likable character. Seriously oh my god.

Perhaps people like him as a character? Meaning, they don't necessarily think he's a good person, but more they like his place in the story and enjoy watching him interact with others? Comparable to loving to hate a good villain. Of course, many voters' thoughts are probably elsewhere. Nothing necessarily wrong with that, either. Actually, I'm a bit surprised that Takao is ranked 3. Had no idea he was that popular. I find him very endearing, so it makes me happy. |

Akashi is my second favorite after kuroko and yes, I adore Akashi spoiler[(to the point I truly squeal each time he appears or half-appears in the anime, no kidding)]
sure, he is the villain of the story and everything bad you want but that does not mean I'm crazy It's called preferences and no one should be criticized for their preferences the fact that you don't like him is absolutely fine and no one should be mad at you for that, but that does also mean you have no right to call crazy others because they have a different opinion than yours and neither they should be obligated to defend their preferences just because someone doesn't understand it PD: just so you know, I'm not trying to start an argument here but I needed to make that clear |

I don't know, Akashi doesn't even strike me as a good villain or a "love-to-hate" type. All I feel when I watch him drawl on and on about his absoluteness or whatever is boredom. I don't think there's anything remotely interesting about him, neither as a villain nor as a potential love interest. And I do find it worrisome that Japanese girls see him as a very desirable love interest, when everything we've known about him in the manga screams "abusive boyfriend". I dunno. It just boggles the mind, especially with so many other likable characters.
And I'm with you on Takao. I'm really glad he ranked so high, he's really cute
I'm sorry if I offended you (but it is my opinion that people who think Akashi would make a good boyfriend are pretty crazy, sorry), but is it so terrible that I genuinely want to understand it? It's something that's beyond my comprehension and I'd really appreciate if someone could at least give me a reason of why they think he's a good character and/or a desirable boyfriend |

No, this ranking is in Shounen JUMP, so the anime has nothing to do with it, though some people might like Kamiya and therefore vote for Akashi. Still, with the current spoiler[Seirin vs. Rakuzan match] going on for how many months now, it's not a surprising result. |

Unless the manga does something seriously interesting with the guy, I also find it hard to wrap my head around Akashi being so popular. This is the guy who tried to spoiler[stab another person with scissors]. I mean, am I missing something here? o_O

^And that's about the most interesting stuff he's done.
I mean, I just find him seriously uninteresting. He's not cartoonishly asshole-ish like Yowapeda's Midousuji nor does he have a "bad boy" attitude like Hanamiya, he doesn't have some sob story for us to relate to. He has no particular motivation or goal because he's convinced of his being absolute and undefeatable, so he doesn't even try hard at anything. He's just a spoiled, prepotent brat that needs a spoonful of reality. The other GoM members had something going for them either to make them likable or interesting opponents. Kise is really energetic and friendly, Midorima has his ridiculously adorable horoscope thing, Aomine loves and enjoys basketball so much and Murasakibara spoiler[makes an amazing turn from being extremely apathetic to becoming passionate about basketball]. Akashi is... uhm... he has heterochromia? And he treats people like shit? I'm so lost on this |

Akashi is godlike. not sure why people think is a Villain? There is no villain in this anime,. Maybe couple dirty players, but Akashi is not one of them. It's basketball.
