*SPOILERS*
*ARE YOU GONE YET? GOOD!* Hello fellow otaku's! I just got done watching the disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya (Helped bump Haruhi to my 2nd fav anime from number 4, next to FLCL) and I have a question about the ending. Hope you can help! After kyon gets stabbed and he wakes up in the hospital are we supposed to assume that he's actually there for the stab wound and the falling down the stairs bit was a cover so that the other members didn't find out after being sent back to his world? Also, what happened after Nagato grabbed the knife? Did uhhh...adult Asahina shoot her? Why did she grab the knife if it was no longer the real nagato? Just to protect Kyon? (Btw that moment actually made me yell "Hell yeah"...got in trouble from parents >.>) Or was is supposed to remain a mystery? Gah, my head hurts. HELP!? Edit:OKAY! After reading the all knowing power that is Wikipedia, it appears that yuki, mikuru, and well...kyon himself from that timeframe, saved ...kyon after being stabbed. Hmm.. Okay. But...if time hasn;t been set back yet, doesn't that mean that that kyons time line is not there, so how could he come back? My brain hurts again. The one action scene in the movie, and they don't even bother to show it.
What a disappointment that was. Anyway, Kyon fell down stairs. End of story. |

Here is my theory I just want to put up a disclaimer and say I have not read any light novels past what has been released in English, so you know it all get off my case OK.
Ok my theory is, in the next Haruhi show/movie we will see how kyon has to go back to that time frame and save himself from dying. Im thinking Mikuru Adult 2, (Mikuru Adult 1 being the 1 we saw in disappearance) will aid Kyon (new show) to go back to the past. It also looks like Kyon has gained some "new powers" or something. Why did Nagato grab the knife? that Nagato had memories of Kyon helping her in the library and clearly she had romantic feelings for him. This is just my opinion but still 
You can also just accept that he did fall down the stairs LoL. |

Kind of confusing, but I think some of it should look more along the lines of Kyon did not switch dimensions but reality itself changed. Maybe think along the lines of Mikuru's old picture book analogy, in these cases the entire book can be redrawn, so even though Kyon might remember being stabed, he was put back into the 'book' with his own back storty with falling down stairs.
Also 'human' Nagato had a crush with Kyon and would obviously want to protect him. Also do you really think that Mikuru shot her, both of them were incredibly distraut as it was, a future Kyon just has to do it, not quite sure how he manages to get it to hapen though. |

Im pretty sure she grabbed the knife because she retained her memories. My assumption was that she did the whole thing because she secretly wanted to be with Kyon but couldn't because of the whole emotionless sentient data thing. spoiler[And that's why she stole Haruhi's powers to create a world where they can be together]. I've never been a person to buy into the whole "moe" phenomenon that seems to be big these days. But that one scene above literally had me on the edge of "HHNNGGGGG"ing. That scene plus the ending with Nagato pushed it to my top 5 movies of the year. |

We know, for a fact,that the adult Asahina-san has come back to guide Kyon to restore the world.This should mean that the space-time quake caused by Yuki was already restored i.e..,the world being restored is a predetermined fact just like adult Asahina was supposed to meet Kyon second time, after she met him and her younger self.You might ask,"then why did adult Asahina come back in time to guide Kyon?".It's because Asahina needs to ensure that he restored the world.Otherwise,the world would change again.
Now that I have established that the world being restored is a predetermined fact.Kyon,Yuki and Asahina have come back from the already restored world to stop Asakura from killing Kyon and to inject the restoration program into Yuki(the one responsible for space-time quake).That is the reason we see two Asahina's.Then,the three of them somehow healed Kyon's stab wound(Probably using Yuki's magic powers.Note that,the other Yuki(the normal girl) has no powers whatsoever.Then they went back in time and arranged such that the still unconscious Kyon got pushed down the stairs,when no one was observing.And the kyon with the SOS brigade that day was the probably the one from the future and later pushed the unconsious kyon down the stairs.The skirt Haruhi seems to have seen was either Asahina's or Yuki's who probably helped push Kyon down the stairs Question:Why did they have to pretend that Kyon accidentally fell down the stairs? Since Kyon passed out due to the stab wound(Probably because of his blood loss) and to make sure no one else (especially Haruhi) found out about the incident. Question:Didn't adult Asahina know Kyon was gonna get stabbed? I believe she did and that's the reason she remained relatively calm compared to her younger self who was not aware that Kyon was gonna get stabbed until that moment.It's probable that Kyon didn't tell her because she'd freak out. Question:From what time did Kyon,Young Asahina and Yuki came from to Save the wounded Kyon?
