I'm glad to hear that Sam Regal & Vic Mignogna are in this one. I enjoy their work and wouldn't mind meeting them at another con or 2.
Unfortunately, this dub has that stilted sound that comes from too many CA dubs. It sounds as though the actors were told to, as was chronicled on Bang/Zoom's Adventures in Voice Acting, simply read the lines at a prompt while affecting a given emotion. It does not sound as though they were talking to each other, it sounded like a stage play where the actors are speaking more to the audience than to each other, which is just awkward as we're supposed to be hearing their conversations, not be a part of them. This clip sure had the melodrama of a stage play; after that wooden, scripted speech given by Sean Chiplock I'm not sure if this show is supposed to be taken seriously or if it is a comedy. Vic and some of the other veterans sounded more natural but they can't carry the dub alone. Maybe they can educate the CA dub studios, get them to realize that actors shouldn't read their lines in anime dubs as they would recite them on stage in a play. |

Personally, I am just glad to see Vic's name come up in a cast list for the first time in awhile. I know he's been busy doing work on his Star Trek fanseries, but it's nice to hear him in anime every so often.

How can Matt Mercer be in this dub? It's obviously a non-union dub, factoring somebody like Vic, who is in Bleach, which is also a non-union dub and Matt Mercer is obviously a union actor, since he's Leon from Resident Evil 6 and while that isn't a dub obviously, it's still union, since Troy Baker, Laura Bailey and Roger Craig Smith are in that, credited and it's a Capcom game, which are almost always union projects. Same with something JYB, who plays Lelouch from Geass, which is a union dub, since it has Crispin Freeman, who is union, Steve Blum, Mary McGlynn, Roger Craig Smith, but in Gankutsuou, he's Albert(check out similarities between Lelouch and Albert, BTW) and is credited as Kevin Hatcher, since that's a non union dub. How come? Ficore? Outright breaking union rules? Can somebody tell me what's going on?

I liked the first dub trailer, but this one really doesn't sound good...The voices are fine, but aside from Vic, who sounds decent, the acting isn't great :/ Very stilted and stage-y. We'll see, I guess.

and this here is why on the forum where Astro Toy was doing a review of Nell a while back and those mega discussions on these union / non union stuff that i stop trying to understand it all. Its way to freaking confusing, and just be glad that a series IS getting an English dub version considering Aniplex could have easily made it a sub only release. |

Once again, Darrel Guilbeau sucking any life and joy out of an otherwise decent dub.
How does that talentless hack keep getting work again?! |

Doubt it. Compared to the horror that was 4kids, seeing any competent dubs is a blessing. besides , he's preety ok since i cant do better and its because i dont know a thing about VA which is why i dont ridicule and dub works at all ( excluding kid based dubs companies that suck like nobodys business) |
