I was wondering if there were any anime with superheros in em. It doesn't necessarily have to be like Superman or Batman or Spiderman, just any superhero. Also, while this may open up my recommendations to other anime which I am not looking for, it doesn't need to be a superhero with powers. It could be a guy like Batman, who is just very skilled in hand-to-hand combat and very smart who still manages to capture criminals and such. A costume is a must!
I hope Tony K. still isn't under orders to lock recommendation threads cause I am very much looking forward to replys. Edit: It can also be a female but please no recommendations about a screaming annoying female. Preferably a badass one! |

The only thing that I think is even close to what you want is Zetman, but I don't even think there is an anime for it yet just a manga...why does it have to be anime? Why not just watch what ever superhero cartoon is out. I quess you can count Super Sentai but I don't think thats what you want.

The first thing that comes to mind is the Read or Die OVA, which I've read described as a cross between the James Bond series and X-Men (not a bad simplification, actually). The Paper has the power to manipulate paper into whatever weapon or utility she needs at the moment, and Miss Deep has phasing powers like the X-Men's Kitty Pride.
There are, of course, numerous fighting anime with characters who power-up, which I guess you could technically consider superpowers. If you consider exorcism and spirit binding a superpower, there are a number of anime out there involving that, too. And as far as Batman-like "powers" (normal humans who are phenomenal martial artists), there are tons and tons of anime out there with at least one character who fits that description. |

There is the Witchblade anime, which is adapted from an American super-hero comic.
Any sentai series would also technically fall under this definition (Gatchaman/Battle of the Planets, for instance). Depending on how loosely you interpret "super-hero", there are many, many other possibilities, as characters with superhuman powers are quite common in anime. |

Two words; Kekko Kamen. She fights evil genuises (really they're just crazy people) and the kicker to the show is.... she fights them naked!!!! Beat that!

Technically, isn't any mahou shoujo title about a superhero? Mild-mannered schoolgirl transforms into a frilly-skirted heroine; it's classic superhero mythology!
In all seriousness, though, you may be interested in the cyberpunk classic Bubblegum Crisis, (the original 80s title; avoid the inferior 90s version) about a team of four female badasses who wear mecha suits and beat other mechs and cyborgs into the ground. They don't have superpowers, but they fit into the Batman comparison because of their smarts and ability to pound evil cyborgs. And their mechs. Did I mention the mechs? |

I think that would leave out most mahou shoujo. Although, I can think of one that I really want to mention just because the creator was heavily inspired by American superhero comics. Demashitaa! Powerpuff Girls Z. Except for possibly Bubbles, I don't think they would count as annoying. |

Could Beyond the Grave from Gungrave be classed as a superhero?
He has a crazy scientist backing him up, a fancy outfit, superhuman abilities, over the top weaponry and a mobile base. Agent Aika could be classed as a superhero as well. She fights a world threatening group lead by a maniacal leader, has a sexy super outfit and can defeat large numbers of maid minions at once. Earth Maiden Arjuna is a type of superhero, she has superhero powers, a mysterious group behind her and fights environmental evils a bit like a schoolgirl version of Captain Planet. Going out on a limb I would say Shido Tatsuhiko from Nightwalker is superheroish, he certainly has special abilities (being a vampire and all), fights crime and evil and has a bunch of helpers. Spriggan is very superheroish but not that good so you're probably better of missing it. |

Before you mentioned it I didn't know the Encyclopedia already has live-action adult films adapted from anime. Anyone else heard of Total Media Agency? |
