I was hoping to see oni on the list. Not popular enough I guess?

Makoto/Sailor Jupiter didn't make it onto the "tall girl" list? I figured her shtick was being taller than the other Inner Scouts. I can understand if she wasn't tall enough, though. Sakaki was just plain amazonian when compared to Osaka.

Do the tengu guardians of the Zashiki Warashi show up in the xxxHoLic anime, or were they only in the manga?
Oh, and what about the tengu in Eccentric Family? |

They definitely do! They fly on skateboards and wear sunglasses. |

Consider that Hell Girl and Shounen Onmyouji focus on Japanese youkai, hell and grudge. I'm surprised that they were not included.

Where the hell is Kyuubi aka Fox Youkai which are easily the most recongizable Japanese folk monster in no small part thanks to Naruto. I mean fox demons appear in every show you have listed as an example and a lot more. And the nine tails version is probably the most iconic form of any of the demons listed.
I mean no offense, but Nue should not even be on the list let alone one, and def. not over the fox. Hell even the few people that probably have heard of Nue probably don't even know what its supposed to be and I have even seem some works overlap with foxes. |

Huh, I wasn't too aware of the Tsuchigumo. Guess it's been awhile since I've seen an anime series with them in it.

Tengu and Yuki-Onna were recurring characters in Urusei Yatsura. Actually, you could probably find most or all of the examples in that series.

Incidentally the tsuchigumo weren't just people who didn't adhere to the imperial court, but the indigenous [emishi] population after the conquest of touhoku in the late eighth century. See ashitaka from princess mononoke.
I think it's been suggested that the name came from their living in pit houses rather than the [unsuited for the climate, let's be honest] platform structures of the yamato-japanese. Which... yeah. Thousand-year-old racist stereotypes, yay. |

Since I already voted, I can no longer see the list. But a couple that I don't recall on the list: Karen from Nisemonogatari and the Amazoness from Arakawa Under the Bridge.

I think Inukami! should probably be among the list of examples for inugami.
And tengu but no tanuki? One of my favorite odd monsters is the long-necked woman (rokurokubi). Never quite understood why that was a power that struck terror into the hearts of men. |
