What's the difference? I realize that the Anime Legends box set costs less and has a different cover. Is the content on the disks the same? Is there anything else that is different from the regular version?

Anime Legends are just rereleases for the most part.....normally of series that sold ok....but Bandai wants to put out a different box for a cheaper in hope to turn some money out of series that aren't selling anymore.

personally, I think its a good way to get a hold of older series' that would be difficult to track down volume by volume.
Speaking of these sets, I was just looking at the .hack/sign AL set today, and it looks quite different from the rest; its one of those fold-cases, might have to pick that up in the near future.

I'm waiting for Planetes, specially since it's $50 MSRP. I really hope they don't screw up this AL/Box Set edition like they've been doing with pretty much both Escaflowne releases.

I didn't have any problems with the "Perfect Collection" of Escaflowne that was released over a year ago, and I haven't heard of anyone who had. Some Anime Legends discs have had authoring issues, but that's no reason to assume that AL discs will be defective. Boy, I hate to say it but anyone who bought the single discs of Planetes really got hosed, considering that there was no artbox and the $50 MSRP collection is coming out a mere 8 months after the last volume. I'm looking forward to finding it for around $35-$40 online and adding to the "on HD, but never watched" pile.

I heard great stuff about it so had to hold back from buying it. I guess we were lucky enough to not buy it... this is exactly why people see thinpacks as bad but atleast we won't have those beautiful special editions of the first 3 volumes.
I didn't mean the old box set of Esca packaged with the movie, I just meant the Anime Legends version but added "box set" to not confuse people, which it did. I just hate how the majority of these Anime Legends or Box Sets that Bandai has released don't play on my PS2 for some reason. The Gundam Collections glitch and I can only watch in the living room or laptop, 3 discs don't work on Esca Collection, my friend said his AL Esca movie was not "complete", and also the Silent Mobius had trouble playing on my friends PS2. Just bad experiences, yet I still hope for Planetes this cheap since all I have to do is buy a DVD player and use my PS2 for games... .
I hope a Box Set of Yukikaze gets announced soon. I've been waiting to watch this series since a preview was made on the Blue Sub 6 special edition collection. I remember seeing the first volume in stores, but no talk of the 2nd so I thought it was just cancelled, until all of a sudden volumes 2 and 3 were released.

I think the Anime Legends version of Outlaw Star actually has more bonus features than the previous box set. Of course I read this in an online DVD review so don't take it as fact. I won't know for sure until I actually get mine in a few weeks.

I would hope not since I have the regular, which looks infinitely nicer and cost me slightly more cash.
I'm not a fan of anime legends, they're just these single, thick cases that you open up and see discs on little flaps that you page through. In comparison to real box sets, they look pretty ugly, but the fact is, they're cheap, completely functional, and downright rude for the people who bought the singles for MSRP of whatever series got AL-inated.
