I need someone to recomend me something funny. I'm looking for a show that has virutally no drama, just corny jokes. Basically something along the lines of Azumanga Daioh or Cromartie High.

My recommendations: Excel Saga and 2x2=Shinobuden. Both absolutely hilarious, however I don't think Shinobuden is available on DVD in the US...unless i'm wrong. Excel Saga is longer and more fast paced, but I think Shinobuden is more random, but it the first episode is really slow, however the ones after it are much better.

Anyway, you might want to try here animenewsnetwork.com/bbs/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=21419 for ways to look for anime.

Yes! Excel Saga is what your looking for as well as the spin-off Puni Puni Poemy!

Both are absolute parodies of anime! My kid keeps trying to get me to buy the Menchi plushy where Menchi is spread out on a grill! Silly kid...

EDIT: fixed spelling error...

As far as the style or content of the humor, I don't really have a preference. I watch quite a bit of anime, so I like to make sure I keep some lighthearted stuff in the rotation. Too much serious stuff without a good laugh isn't good for the soul.

Ful Metal Panic Fumoffu would be a good one to check out. Its funny as hell, no real plot to speak of, and it watching the first Full Metal Panic isn't needed.

Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi is a wild ride. Each episode (aside from the first and the last) spoofs a different genre of anime and a number of series specifically.

You could get the thinpack, but I'd recommend getting the individual volumes for all the extras (like a miniature newspaper insert and hilarious 'outtakes').

I absolutely must recommend The Irresponsible Captain Tylor. It is one of the funniest series I have ever seen.

It's a sci-if/comedy about a carefree guy who may be the world's biggest idiot who becomes the captain of ship that is the dumping ground of the Galactic Fleet. Just about everyone in the crew is their because nobody else wants them for various reasons (like a doctor who does better when he's drunk).

I watched maybe 6 or 7 episodes, and for some reason I just couldn't get into it. I'll finish the series one of these days though.

I can understand how you wouldn't get into it; I didn't mention it because of the 'drama' moments. it is a real wild ride though, similar to Excel Saga.

Rune Soldier is a good action/comedy, just slower. It's a fantasy setting piece where a fighter, thief, and cleric (all women) look for a magic user to fill out their group. Unfortunately, all they can find is a guy who has a propensity to fight his way through a situation rather than use his magic.

Most other comedy I know has some sort of drama element to it, but it rarely detracts from the laughter for me anyway.

Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan is one title you will like. It's extremely bloody and there's a lot of heads flying off but it's just 8 episodes (10-15 minutes each) of pure comedy.

FLCL is a weird kind of comedy that doesn't really involve any kind of depth in plot. It involves aliens and guitars. Also very short (I think only 6 episodes? shrug).

Jungle wa Itsumo Hare nochi Guu involves some plot. It's a story about a boy who suddenly meets this girl named "Guu" who's not really human. A lot of crazy, nonsensical stuff that's funny.

School Rumble is similar to Azumanga Daioh but a lot less random and a lot more hilarious. I'd rate School Rumble higher by far. School Rumble 2 is in production by the way.

I'd recommend Ghost Stories, which is very funny and random if you watch it in English...check the reviews on ANN, they basically re-wrote the dub script to have some Americanized and mature humor, and while there is some drama in the original version, they mercilessly make fun of it in the dub. (Of course, the Japanese audio with subtitles is available for those who want to see it.)
