Well I've seen the show and I've read the manga. A lot of both. It has its share of good fighting scenes. The characters are pretty good and they all have their different unique personalities. The story is just average. I mean Naruto is good manga and anime but I mean I think it's definately not worth the hype. I mean it's on the top 10 anime on this site! No way I've seen a lot better anime's. I just wanted to put my thoughts out there. But let's take Bleach for example. It's pretty popular now and I think that's definately worth the hype. Cool characters, a perfect blend of action and good comedy. Just an all around good manga. Those are my thoughts. Also did anyone get kind of annoyed at how they pronounce Sasuke? I mean I read the manga first and I always pronounced it Sas-oo-key. I think Sas-kay is kind of a stupid name.

Top 10 most popular anime that is. Yes, there are better anime/manga too imo. But it's Shounen Jump which guarentees it's going to be popular. And it looks cool and has ninjas and fighting and stuff which appeals to children. It's not really overratted imo though since its supposed to be for kids and does a good job at entertaining them. It's kind of like saying Sesame Street is overrated because it's so popular with little kids.

I'd agree that it is overrated here, but I think Naruto is a decent manga (and decent anime until the endless filler blocks). It's typical shounen: You have your long fights, arrogant kid with a goal, flashy techniques, shouting out technique names, heroes defeat enemy after enemy and get stronger, organized divisions and rankings, etc. I think the large cast of characters, for the most part, are developed pretty well. The story is somewhat generic, but is still decent. You say Bleach lives up to its hype, but doesn't it pretty much follow the same formula? You've just got a damsel in distress this time, and a talking cat that changes into a busty woman.

Plus, isn't Naruto not as popular in Japan (although still popular) as it is here? I think One Piece (which I believe lives up to its hype) overshadows Naruto in Japan.

-suke is a common suffix to add to a boy's name, and that seems to be your primary complaint when you say that you hate the name "Sasuke." There's a TON of anime characters with the suffix -suke (Sagara Sousuke from Full Metal Panic!, Urahara Kisuke from Bleach, Fuji Syuusuke from Prince of Tennis, etc.). Not to mention, your own username has a -suke suffix in it. Let's all pronouce it Yoos-oo-key!

This is just based on a few weeks ago when I was in Japan...

Naruto seems to be more popular in Japan then here. I doesn't seem to be covered up by One Piece at all (and to be honest, I don't remember seeing that much of One Piece anyway). Excluding the anime that have been around in Japan for years like Doraemon, Pokemon, and Dragon Ball, currently, Keroro Gunso seems to be the most popular children's anime.

I have seen neither the show or the manga, but based on people`s said things about it, I might try looking into the manga.

Anime is good till ep 133.

Manga starting stinking somewhere in the 230s but has (sort of?) redeemed itself lately... although I gotta say, it doesn't get me all excited or on the edge of my seat anymore.

EVERY time someone gets seriously hurt, what happens? Replacement jutsu! *surprise?...*

Not to mention the incredibly monotonous backgrounds... trees... villages.... trees... villages.... caves... yaaaay.

Your name must be pretty stupid as well then, since the suke in Yusuke is pronounced EXACTLY the same way. Sas-kay is the CORRECT pronouncation. The u is supposed to be silent. Your intitial pronouncation is incorrect. Just because you don't know how to pronounce Japanese names doesn't mean that the correct pronouncation is stupid. It just means you don't know what you're talking about. Try to learn something about Japanese pronouncations before you make your own assumptions as to how you think you a name should be pronounced.

Anyway, I don't think Naruto is as good as most people do, but I don't think it's over-rated either. What I mean is I can understand why it's so popular. It has a fairly simple and easy to follow storyline that makes it easier to understand for newbie anime fans not used to the more complex plots of other anime and for little kids, who seem to be the main diehard fans of Naruto. Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura have generic personalities, but they're likeable characters with personalities that anyone can relate to, making them popular characters with kids, and the other characters have plenty of unique personalities, like Kakashi, Gaara, Ino, and Rock Lee, who is one of the funniest manga parodies of Bruce Lee with his "fuzzy eyebrows" and obssesion over Sakura. The different fighting techinques are shown in more detail than usual Shounen Jump series and the fight scenes have a bit more stragety than usual. Yes, it's not the greatest manga ever, but it's not really supposed to be. It's just another fun action-oriented manga that's made to be appealing to younger readers. It's a good gateway series and it's a lot more interesting than most of the other Shounen Jump crap out there.

alright yusuke is a whole different name so it doesnt have to be stupid just beause it has the same sound at the end. also i didn't say it was stupid just because it was the japanese pronounciation. i think it sounds like a stupid name to me. sas-kay. i dont care if i was wrong on how to pronounce it at first because i dont know japanese at all. i wanna learn but i dont have any sources. anyway i just liked the way i pronounced it better. whats wrong with that?

What's wrong is you saying the proper pronunciation is stupid when it's actually your own pronunciation that is. I'll admit I made the same mistake with Tasuki from Fushigi Yuugi, but I picked up on the silent "u" pretty fast, it's not that hard.

Iya, One Piece IS more popular. It has a higher average position in SJ, higher weekly and monthly manga sales averages (and I believe it has higher manga sales numbers as well) and pulls higher TV ratings on average than Naruto ever pulled on a single episode.

Naruto's like a younger brother to OP. It almost always loses. Anime catgrin

----

And it is overrated. Just look at the Graphic Novel sales from Bookscan. It's almost like it's the only thing out there. It's not even the best title in that list.

I agree, totally overrated, I mean I like the series to a degree, don't get me wrong the series is good, but it's starting to become the new DragonBall here in America, same over in Japan I believe. The fights are average, the plot is too basic, & alot of the characters are lame. Not to mention the fights become too predictable later on from what I've heard.

I don't know Japanese either but I at least learn how to pronounce the names before I make my own assumptions. The u sound in suke is always silent. Like, in the name Yusuke, the u is silent. In the name Sanosuke, the u is silent. And in the name Daisuke, the u is silent. These are just a few examples but the u is always silent in suke. It doesn't matter if you prefer the way you're pronouncing the name over the correct pronouncation. It's still incorrect and you'll still make yourself look like a retard going around pronouncing somebody's name incorrectly just because you don't like the way it's pronounced. If everybody went around pronouncing words however the hell they wanted just because they didn't like how they sounded, we would all be speaking nothing but gibberish.
